That IS a good turnout.
That is about what our local clubs are drawing for a nite hunt this year. Our events seem to be down, on average, close to 50% this year. Not sure why.

A good, traditionally strong, club just down the road from us drew 8 dogs on Fri. night and 5 dogs on Sat. night at their UKC hunts just a couple weeks ago.

I've inspected at both HTX's our club has had and while I can't say I'm fired up enough to put a dog in them, I can face the fact that this is already just about as popular as a nite hunt.

After 2 events this HTX is on the same level of participation, or better than the UKC, PKC, or club hunts we've had, for years.

IMO, one thing that's going to have to happen for this to work is that non members that come should expect to be asked to hang around to inspect someone else's dog. Even at that it may take 2 or even 3 rounds to get everyone in. Its just too much to expect a club to have 10 nonhunting inspectors lined up. Even the ones I talked to that drove the furthest, were willing to do this.

I must admit I assumed from the start that everyone running a dog would also inspect one the same night. If everyone did that you should be able to be done in two rounds; provided at least 50% of your entry was local enough to guide.

It's going to get tricky here before to long. We are getting enough passes from our local dogs that making sure someone isn't judged by a judge that has already passed them is going to be a issue.

1 of 2 things is going to have to happen for the HTX to survive IMO in our area.

1. Rule change regarding judging a mans dog who just judged you. If we could send two guys out and let them judge each other that would make things much, much EZer

Without the rule change

2. Other clubs in our area are going to start having HTX Hunts.

Both these issues are out of my hands. Though I wish there was something more I could due.

UKC PLEASE LISTEN AND CONSIDER THE RULE CHANGE, IT'S OUR BEST MEANS OF KEEPING THE HTX HUNTS VIABLE IN THE FUTURE.
THANKS Mathhew M. Fann - HTX Hunt Director for Holden, Mo.

It never really occurred to me until this weekend but I agree.

IMO, its not enough of an issue that we need to let 2 guys go out and judge each other on the same night. When there are 6-10 entries, and everyone is able to inspect, it can be worked out.

My understanding is that no inspector can inspect the same dog twice, towards their "3" passes, but once they get 3 passes, then it "resets" towards the next 3?

You are correct John.

I was thinking about the HTX Hunts and they are the only title there is no end too. GrandNite your done. GrandShow your done. Could have HTX5000 with a good dog and a TON of commitment.

It sure would make things easier I agree but I'm afraid it would take away from the credibility of the certificate. I would be more inclined to adjust the rule that prohibits inspecting a dog more than once than I would be to adjust the rule that allows two people to inspect each other's dogs OR allow hunting buddies to inspect each other's dogs.

I do appreciate your input Matt.
