training advice

My hound is 2yrs 3 months old. I got her last sept when she was well started and could tree her own coon. She was a big project at first with deer running, and slick treeing. Thise where my 2 biggest obstacles to overcome with her when i first put her in the woods. I've got the deer problem fixed, she hasnt messed with them since last fall. The slick treeing was worked on a lot last fall and winter when the leaves where gone. I would scold her and walk her around the tree till she got the track going again. She caught on to this quickly and went on to tree over 100 coon for me last fall and winter and became very acurate for me. I have kept her in the woods a couple times a week up to this date. The last couple of weeks shes been locating a lot more then normal then locking down the tree for 1min to 5 min then goes back to tracking real close to that tree she leaves. 9 times out of 10 she wil go on to tree the coon she left the tree to go after and stay hooked till i get there. I have been marking the first tree she is on and then leaves with the garmin. Seems to bea coon in the first tree a majority of the time. I know there is more scent around with the kits down but the coons she is leaving are not kitten coon. Ive never had a dog that would lock down on a tree for the above amount of time then leave. I have thought about switching her back to the first tree but shes has been very acurate when she does end up staying treed and i dont want to go back to looking at bare trees. Maybe its just cause shes young and in thick coon still trying to put it all together? Maybe i should ship her off and move on.Any advice or opinions are welcome.

hunt her through it... lots of dogs go through this stage.... right now I would do nothing.... later if she doesn't stop on her own I would put her back on the first tree she made... most all will stop if you keep hunting them

YOU taught her to check herself for more track and move on, and now that coon are moving in bunches shes gonna tree the last one up. This time of year young coon are up and down half the trees in the woods and can make lots of pretty good dogs look like idiots.

there is NO EXCUSE for slick trees, anymore so than leaving coon treed...if she is intelligent she will get it togather, and I agree atm she is checking herself and going to the last coon up.

I would just go to the first tree she marked (new tech is awesome aint it ) and realy make a fuss squalling, shaking, ect. if its still a problem in the fall, shoot it out and if she comes in to the shot, DONT let her even so much as sniff it as you peel the bark off that ringtail.

Thanks for the input guys. She been driving me crazy the last couple of weeks. I have had dogs do some weird things but it drives me nuts that she trees and then keeps going shortly after. Hope she learns to stay on the first coon or not tree at all until shes going to stay put.

Thanks again for your input!

dogs are dogs...any they go through phases...gotta hunt em through it and correct what you can...

i agree..you taught her to check and move on...and like was said, i think she is hitting another track and taking it...

at a slick tree i leash and scold and move on with life....i want my dog to know i aint happy with that tree...they are smart enough to figure out on their own trees with coon up it make me happy and trees without do not...some guys chase them off the tree...like you are learning that just teaches them to check and leave trees...when mine locates i want it to stay there till i come get it off that tree...
