getting a dog to load

ive got a 3 year old dog that was hunted out of a car until a year ago and i havnt been trying to get her to load until the past several months. She will put her front legs on the tailgate and thats it. Ive been grabbing her lead and throwing her in the box since i cant get her to jump. How can i fix this other than a 22 bullet? By the way shes a dam nice dog just cant load?

If They are that nice ... I don't mind helping out but that's just me.

Big D did the same thing. Brian would lift his ass up and in he went. Never heard anyone complain about it.

I'll lift a good dog in the truck but not a sorry one.

I have one that wouldn't load until it was almost 5 years old. Then he decided that he didn't like being picked up by his tail and collar anymore. Even now, he'll load in my truck but no one elses.

I've seen some awfully nice hounds that wouldn't load up in a truck.

it might help if the truck didn't have a six inch spring lift and another 3 inch body lift and 35 inch tires and a bottom storage box lol !

As long as truck is not jacked up, just walk him kinda quick from aboit 10ft back and when he is about 2 fr from the truck, say load and pick up on the leash. Ive had plenty of dogs and this worked for them all. Yoir basically picking them up somewhate with the leash and they jump rather than running into the truck...you can also put a treat in the box to help.

Any smart dog can be taught to load.JMO.

If you are sure she can jump
you could try removeing your dog box & practice with her just jumping into the bed of the truck it may help to put another dog up there also
or maybe put her feed bowl up there at feeding time we all know how our hounds love there food

A few years ago I started a female and hunted only off my 4 wheeler.

It was too high and she had to wait for me to open the door anyway, So she learned to just put her front feet up and wait for a boost.

She will now load in a truck somtimes, but still just stands there waiting for a boost ocasionally.

put their feed bowl up on something sturdy that high.{dog house if its flat and big enough}

they will learn to jump/load.

a buddy does it when he is training pups.never a problem loading later on.

I have a female out of my buddies dog and they both won't load! I started using a shocking collar by toning her and she flies in now!!

The key is using the word "load" everytime you put them in the box. When they are young I will lift them and tell them to load. When they get big enough and know what they are supposed to do I use the lead lifting method telling them to load while I am doing it. If they are still being a little obstinate about loading I use "the launch" method spoken about earlier. I grab them by the collar and tail AND LAUNCH them into the box all the while using the word "load". Generally after a couple of launches they learn to load on the command of load. I make sure I get hold of the collar first because some of them aren't real keen on having their arse lifted by the tail!!!

Dogs Loading

Steve teaches his when they are young to load by parking truck in dog yard and feeding them in the Truck Bed. One dog at a time. Should work on older dogs.

i also use the collar and tail method, they hate being picked up by the tail usually within a short period they learn to load, has worked great for every hound ive had to teach.

Easiest way

Park truck so tailgate is only roughly 1 to 2 feet off the ground. Use peanut butter crackers to get dog to jump up on the tailgate. Do this several times. Then next day move truck so tailgate is 2 to 3 feetfeet off the ground, put cracker in the box, repeat and continue until dog can jump up on the tailate at normal height. Before long you will be surprised how high they can jump.
Also feeding pups up on small box or platform, if they learn they can jump as pups, they are real easy.
