Brood Stud

With all the breeding of cull females I was wondering if there is any interest in a Brood Stud. Good papers but never hunted. Breed your good female to him and should get same results as breeding to a good stud with your cull ( brood female)

I see where your going with this, but a good breeder will not use a brood female that has never been hunted and won't do it herself, so while something like this may get a few hits, it's doubtful it would ever become popular as even brood females aren't as common as this board makes them appear.

I'd bet there are way more brood females out there than anyone would care to admit.

I agree. How many would take that nice female to a brood stud? People sure arent shy about backing a brood female up to a big named stud

Lots of brood females and lots of cull females .... not as many brood studs , but plenty of guys think just because their male can tree a coon that he's a stud dog ... and plenty of young males that get bred on potential and then fizzle .

The % of pups being bred vs. coondogs from that years pups when the dust settles three years later is so low that we outta just hang our heads and not ever even talk about how to breed dogs ... outta be more threads on correct hole digging to save our backs !

truth be told very few coon dogs or not coon dogs excel in the breeding pen.... your chances would probably be almost the same

Every breeding is a gamble. The percentages for titled males and females are higher because they are bred to more then untitled dogs. The same could be said for brood females and "brood males". The more you breed a dog if they produce the more good offspring you will get. If a male dog is never given a chance in the woods but he has the genetics to reproduce then he will. Winning hunts or even being hunted at all does not mean a dog, male or female, will reproduce. How many grand nite champions, male or female, never produced a decent pup? I would rather see that one can do it in the woods before breeding but I am sure some real reproducers never made to the woods at all and were never bred.
