i'd support a flat tax, that way everyone would pay. I'm tired of seeing 30% or more of my check go to the goverment to pay for people that are to lazy to take care of themselves, sit on their couch play video game and eat chips all day on my dime. its sickening.

Unfortunately our elitist representatives would never vote to cut their cushy paying 2nd jobs and perk benefits.
Flat tax,absolutely
Truly, you threw one in there that I am 100% opposed to taxing and that is inheritances.
I hate that tax and it should be unconstitutional.
If you read the way the government justifies it,it is not a tax on you to receive an inheritance but on the persons that has passed away right to give it to their heirs.AND in the governments words "don't think anyone should get all that income without having to earn it".What a joke!
#1 Depending on their income level the earner already has paid anywhere from 15 to 40% in taxes when it was earned.
Now when you die they want another big cut of it again depending on the amount of wealth you have accumulated in your life time."FOR THE PRIVILEDGE TO PASS IT ONTO YOUR HEIRS"
The government could very well end up with over 50% of your earnings! What a bunch of crap!
#2 I thought that would be double taxation wish is suppose to be illegal?
Sorry Capt for hijacking your post and going on a rant.
DID I SAY..... I HATE THAT TAX!!

So Pat and Lee, to be honest you are not in favor of a flat tax. If you want income that is derived from inheritance taxed at a different rate than income derived from any other source then you are not in fact in favor of a flat tax.
To the extent that in all other areas you would be in favor of a flat tax let me ask you this, would you eliminate the per child tax deduction? So that a couple with 4 children would pay the same as a single person?

iheritance tax is a bunch of garbage, and the left complain about dividends/capital gains being taxed at 15% but that totally overlook the corporation already paid taxes on the profits utitlized to pay out the dividends in the first place. its never enough when its someone elses money.
example below
"This may not seem like a big deal to some people who don't really earn substantial amounts of dividend income, but it does bother those whose dividend earnings are larger. Consider this: you work all week and get a paycheck from which tax is deducted. After arriving home, you give your children their weekly allowances, and then an IRS representative shows up at your front door to take a portion of the money you give to your kids. You would complain since you already paid taxes on the money you earned, but in the context of dividend payouts double taxation of earnings is legal. "

I Am against paying any tax until the our leaders learn how to control spending....Right/ Left and in between..... Hate the inheritance tax not thrilled about capitol gains. I don't like to punish the successful workers with higher taxes.. I think a flat tax could be simplified and implied....I really don't have a good comeback for this question.

I am in favor of a flat tax.
The problem with Inheritence taxes is the earner has paid taxes on the income when earned no matter how wages, dividends, invetments, etc. and it is taxed again AFTER they DIE for the PRIVILEDGE to give it to their HEIRS.
So they are in fact being taxed twice on the income they earned.
The tax is calculated on the value of your estate and not the person receiving it.
To me that is double taxation.
As to persons with children and deductions.
Every person and child would be allowed a personal exemption. This would help protect the lower income earners.
The deduction amount IMO should be 10-15,000 per person. After that a scale on amounts after the deductions would be applied
Such as 0-20,000 .....10%
20,001-40,000..............15%
40,001- 100,000...............25%
And so on with the maximum at 35% for earners after persons in the household deductions are applied over 250,000.
No other deductions or credits would be allowed on personal types of incomes that is not related to a business income .
Higher income earners actually sometimes pay less than lower earners as they have access to more credits which lowers their effective rate of taxes they are paying. This scale and flat rate would eliminate that.
I agree that more successful earners should not be punished for being successful but if you check my idea it is what everyone is suppose to be paying right now basically but due to all these deductions do not.

Like I said No deductions on any thing. And what I am saying IS a flat tax based on your earnings. No loophole deductions which is what I thought the flat tax is all about.
And as I have said repeatedly Inheritance taxes are a second tax on earnings that have already been taxed when they were earned the first time by the same taxpayer.
Answer this question please................
WHY SHOULD YOU PAY A TAX A SECOND TIME TO GIVE MONEY OR YOR BELONGINGS TO ME THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID TAXES ON IT ONCE WHEN IT WAS EARNED BY YOU THE FIRST TIME ???
I am out of here.got things to do!!

inheritance is taxable maening some
one has passed on
My mom sold me the farm $$$$ super cheap...no inher.tax
quote:Pat, the anti "double taxation" issue is every bit as silly the flat tax concept. No dollar has been taxed twice. Every dollar has been taxed hundreds of times. Here is what I mean by that- You get your paycheck which has already been taxed. You go to the store and buy some stuff which will also be taxed. you also use your money to pay for your home, which will also be taxed. You also pay your phone bill which includes taxes. All of the places where you spent your money have employees who get paid in part from the proceeds of your spending. Those employees are taxed on their income, and with the remaining money go out and buy goods and services, just like you did, and are taxed again. And on and on. That is just the way it goes. Money gets taxed [in one way or another] just about every time it changes hands. So don't be thinking just cause some rich dude screams about double taxation that you should be worried about it any more than he is worried about you.

And specifically to those who cry about double taxation on their investments- that is an bigger line of bull. Your original investment is NEVER taxed as income again. Only what it earns is taxed. Example- Charles Koch puts around $5billion in investments per year. That 5$billion dollars earns maybe around $350 million per year. ONLY THE 350$ MILLION GETS TAXED. Not the original $5 billion. So the original investment is never double taxed. Of course he is only gonna pay 15% tax on his earnings while you pay 28%, and you will pay 7-15% FICA on top of that and he will pay none.

inheritance tax is set up for the "redistribution of wealth". No other reason. I am not in favor of a flat tax but rather a national sales tax. If you save your money, why should the government expect you to pay them? Those that can afford to buy more, pay more. Those with less, pay less. The collection process would free up many IRS workers so it will never pass.
