i name mine pup until they start showing something. don't rush a name cause you'll end up with some name you don't like. the dog will name itself one night while hunting it.

I got one named Dexter but as a pup he ate or toted off a lugnut to a car I was working on so he gets called Lugnut.
I told the guys I hunt with my next male dog will be named Smoke. I was asked why Smoke and I said because he is going to smoke ya'lls dogs. LOL
