I DON'T AGREE, track. It's HIGH TIME people get off their butts and TAKE AMERICA BACK!!! The ONLY REASON, I said ONLY REASON people think non UNION Jobs are Okay, is because they NEVER WORKED in a good UNION SHOP. I'm not talking about some "Fly by night UNION, I'm talking about a NATIONWIDE UNION. If, again, I say IF THE UNION LEADERSHIPS WOULD'VE PULLED EVERY UNION MAN OUT WHEN REAGAN FIRED THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS, And Shut The COUNTRY DOWN, WE WOULDN'T BE IN THIS SCENARIO NOW!! The UMWA SPENT ALL THEIR CAPITAL PUTTING oblamo IN OFFICE, YOU'D THINK HIS ADMINISTRATION WOULD OVERRULE THIS TRAVISTY OF JUSTICE!! Do I think it's wrong, YOU'RE **** RIGHT I THINK IT'S WRONG. And, If anyone is smart enough to pour water, they'd AGREE!!! IF THIS ISN"T OVER RULED IN FEDERAL COURT, THERE Will be countless THOUSANDS OF RETIRED WORKERS AND WIDOWS THAT WILL BE THROWN UNDER THE BUS!!! You guys working WILL BE PAYING HIGHER TAXES FOR INSURANCE WHEN THESE PEOPLE HAVE NO PLACE TO GO BUT WELFARE!! PATRIOT COAL WAS PUT TOGETHER FOR ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY and THAT WAS TO GO BELLY UP SO THE REST OF THE COAL INDUSTRY CAN POCKET ALL THE MONEY FROM THE MINING OF COAL!! People had better think of someone besides their selves because this is WRONG, WRONG RULING!!!!

If I remember my history right didn't Reagan start the actors union. Then when he became president turned around and cut the unions throat. Hmmm. Perfect example of President working for big businesses interest.

I don't think that this is a union/non-union thing. It is a simple fact that large corporations can manipulate the system to rid themselves of the liabilities that they promised in the past. If this sticks, every single person with a "promised" pension and or medical plan (if you don't work for the government) could stand to lose it all. This is not fair. The guys at Patriot paid their dues with blood, sweat, and coal to get what was promised to them.
quote:your probly right who knows they probly paid the judge off and another thing they knew if they could get it somewhere that people dont care about coal industry or its people like wv pa ky and southern part of va they didnt want it in a state that alot of people depend on coal for a living jmo

I agree, truly, As long as "BIG BROTHER" can get away forming "DUMMY" Corps', Then shift ALL the LIABILITIES to them, they have to FAIL!! And as they fail, We come closer to a "ONE SERVER INSURANCE PROVIDER!! ie, AFCA/oblamocare, THE IRS WILL ADMINISTER THE PROGRAM. If that doesn't SCARE THE PANTS OFF OF YOU, You NEED HELP. GET SICK, GO TO THE HOSPITAL, The IRS checks your BANK ACCOUNT OR RETIREMENT ACCOUNT AND, WHAMO, They make a withdrawal! PEOPLE DON'T WANT "oblamocare, MORE AMERICANS WANT IT DEFUNDED and SCRAPPED!! To me, The whole PATRIOT COAL FIASCO is nothing to do with UNION/NON-UNION. It's about letting CORPORATIONS GET OUT OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO IT'S WORKERS AND WIDOW'S. It's JUST MORE OF THIS ADMININTRATION'S WAR ON COAL. IT'S NO DIFFERENCE THAN BAIN CAPITOL, BUYING COMPANIES, PENSIONS, LIABILITIES, THEN SELLING THEM OFF. IN THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE, THE JUDGE ORDERED THEM TO SIT DOWN AND NEGOIATE A NEW CONTRACT, WITH LOWER WAGES, BENEFITS, AND RETIREMENTS. I don't know what relationship Cecil Roberts had/has with "oblamo" but IF you remember THE UMWAUNION endorsed "oblamo"!! Cecil probably thought he could play "CHICAGO POLITICS!!
I see where CECIL and HIS BOYS are HOLDING A MASS RALLY on Tuesday of this week. MAYBE HE'S TRYING TO SET A NEW RECOED FOR ARRESTS BY A UNION PRESIDENT!!!
It is not just the coal miners. This could hit the auto workers, steel workers, and any other group that has their pensions and insurance promised by a large corporation. The fact that our legal system says that this is OK scares the crap right out of me.
EXACTLY PHIL, It's what we call THE FOOT IN THE DOOR. We had within our Union at PPG what we called "SISTER PLANT CONFERENCE. There was Chemical Workers, Glass Workers, Auto Workers, Unions out of Canada. We met, Current workers still do, every year in COLUMBUS, OHIO @ The Labor Day Weekend and plotted what was going on at one location and tried to figure out how to derail it before it happened to too many plants. That's when we found that there are different Union Workers. Some are HARD CORE, some just Pay dues. We Were Very Radical at The Natrium Plant. It is an Old Plant that makes Chlorine and Caustic. We were able to avoid most things the others weren't able to derail, just because the workers at those plants wouldn't stand their ground and tell the SALARY PEOPLE; NO, NOT GONNA HAPPEN AT NATRIUM!! We had to HIT THE BRICKS ONCE IN A WHILE, BUT WHEN I RETIRED I WAS MAKING OVER 30 DOLLARS AN HOUR, I'M NOT BRAGGING JUST TRYING TO ILLUSTRATE WHAT CAN OCCUR IF YOU STAND SOLID AS ONE, AND THE CORPORATION NEEDED OUR PRODUCTS PRODUCED THERE. Now IF the present administration hadn't declared WAR ON COAL, The fiasco at Patriot Coal probably wouldn't be happening. Coal is NOT NEEDED like it used to be. Now, IF THIS stays on, UNION WORKERS EVERYWHERE WILL PAY THE SAME PRICE BEING PAID BY ALL THE WORKERS THAT HAVE HAD THEIR BENEFITS TRANSFERED TO PATRIOT. As we had Conferences, SO DO CORPORATIONS. MOST ARE SITTING BACK AND WATCHING TO SEE WHAT IF ANYTHING WILL BE DONE IN THE FEDERAL COURTS!! Then It Will Start being THE NORM instead of UMWA. I WISH THEM THE BEST!!! UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!!! GOD BLESS!!!!
Brush you hit it on the head. Unions are as strong as their members. My union isn't worth crap but that's a whole other issue. The dollar can can make even the hardcore union members or committee blow off issue or stuff a crappy contract down their members throat. I've been on my committee and was voted out by my committee due to the fact I didn't feel like sticking it up my brothers and sisters back side. Unions gotta be solid from the top to bottom to work but they just don't have the bargaining power they once had. Jmo

talked to a guy i know out macdonalds he said the extened thier health care till sometime in june
Jason, Where I worked, PPG, We were so structured that when we started Talking about the NEW Contract with the Company, We'd take a Day off from Talks and have A Strike Vote, With every Union Member Voting Yes or No as to Strike The Company, If the company didn't address our concerns. Of Course If The Committee didn't get The Strike Authorization Vote, That would end The Talks! The Committee did Have The Ability to Pull The Workers out on Strike, But We Never Did. We Always Brought Whatever The Company wanted The Membership to Vote on Back to Let The Membership Vote Their Choice, Up Or Down. The Membership Always Required A Recommendation From The Committee. If We Voted Up, It Passed, If We voted down, It Failed!! I always figured that Giving The Committee That Much Power was Not In The Best Interest Of All Involved!! The Committee Didn't Know Every ones Financial Needs!! We Let The Workers Vote It Up Or Down!!
I see where Cecil Roberts said, The UMWA have reached a tentative agreement with Patriot Coal and will be VOTED on Friday!! Say a few Prayers that Calm Heads Will Prevail!!!
