Please help all input needed

I went out to feed my bluetick this morning and under his neck he has a softball size swell dangling from his neck. I never seen this before yesterday he was perfectly fine. Has anyone had this happen? It's soft like. He was whining around midnight I didn't think anything of it. Snake bite? Or infection?

Could be either. My dog gets a lump on his cheek every once in a while. It opens up itself then I just keep it clean and it heals up. I think it's from an old bite wound

Seen snake bites like that it will probly bust on it own jus keep it clean an a few antibiotics woodnt hurt so don't get infected!

if they chew on stuff, could be a piece of stick or something stuck and got infected. if its that big, could affect their breathing - life threatening. snake bite - life threatening. if the dog is whining about it, then its bothering him, so why are you asking us about it? get him looked at. if you have some antibiotics, wouldnt hurt to get a dose in them now to get a head start on whatever it could be but still needs to be looked at. you could be playing with fire with something that big in the neck. lots of blood vessels/arteries and the trachea there. hope it works out.

I'm sorry should clarified better. He was whining last night we had thunderstorms wasn't sure why he was whinging I woke up and fed him this morning before work noticed this growth or abcess under his jaw. It's very soft think its infected it doesn't bother him he eats drinks doesn't hurt to touch it barks acts normal I'd like to post a pic but don't know how. I have givin him antibiotics and vet is coming tomorrow to look at him!!! I'm not ignorant or would ever put my dog on danger he is my family! I jus wanted to see of Nyone has experienced this. I was worried to death about him. There is no signs of a hole or sore this thing jus dangling under his jaw.

sounds like

a abcess to me if it is a vet will have to lance it and give a med that will heal it from inside the abcess it also couyld be a snake bite

ok. understand. sounds like an abscess, would start him on some kind of antibiotics until vet sees him. wasnt implying you were, sorry. just didnt want him to suffer needlessly. if he doesnt seem to be in distress he "should" be ok until vet sees him. let us know.

Update on diesel. Gave a penicillin shot yesterday morning. The swelling has went down 70% as of this morning can hardly tell anything was wrong with him. Thanks to many prayers and penicillin.

glad to hear it! just follow thru on the dosing. you cant stop in the middle of treatment, have to continue the usual 7-10 day course or it can come back

I have seen that twice.... both times it was an infected tooth. One was a baby tooth that never came through, and one was an older dog. Heavy on the antibiotics for a while.
