Oh Great!!!
Well I just seen my first Illinois armadillo. Of course it was dead on the side of the interstate. I had a guy tell me once they are born dead on the side of a road.
Just what we need another critter for them to mess with at night.

Billy I'm sure you knew Mike Harrell from up at Xenia? I hunted with Mike a lot when I was in High School and worked for him and his dad on their farm for much of my teenage years. Bailed more hay then I want to think about.
Anyway, Mike went down to a hunt down south one time and stopped and picked up a dead diller on the side of the road. When he was coming home he dropped it right in the middle of the Xenia - Orchardville blacktop about 3 miles south of Xenia and then went to the coffee shop.
Sure enough about 20 minutes went by and some old codger came in telling everyone about the critter he had seen dead on the road and Mike kept his mouth shut while he was describing it.
"Well," the old guy said, "I don't know what it was but I'm pretty sure a possum crossed on a snappin turtle!"
Every time Mike would tell this story he'd about get down he'd laugh so hard. That's the only one I've heard tell of in IL but it didn't make it's way naturally! You're right though, one more thing they don't need to mess with at night!

I'd heard tell there were some in the furthest south counties over the last couple years. I knew it would just be a matter of time before they made their way far enough north.
I know the DNR said there are like 15 (can't remember exact number) counties in IL with confirmed herds of feral hogs now too. If you see any the season is wide-open on them. They hope to get in front of them before they get to be too big of a problem. I doubt they'll even put a dent on them. I can deal with the dillers if the hogs would stay out!
