question for UKC
This question was asked around a group of guys. Some are club members and some are not.
A UKC chartered club in our area has there membership closed to accepting any new members. It has been closed over one year.
How dose UKC feel about this?
UKC promotes wanting members and clubs with strong memberships. Old club members will soon burn out while running all the events.
If I recall right when starting a club you need a certain amount of members. As older members pass on or members quit the membership is reduced. Also we get no new members.
We wonder how UKC feels on this? I feel in time club will be in trouble.
I am a Paid up member.

Good question...not sure that one has ever come up before. I remember years back we had a guy operating a club just by himself as like his side job and we did shut that down. But we don't have a rule that requires clubs to have an open membership. I agree with you in that I don't think it's healthy. I have my doubts they will succeed. But no rule against it.
We no longer have a rule pertaining to minimum number of members either. We had one when I started here but all that did was force a few guys into listing all their children as individual members. I think the old number was 35. You can run a successful club with far fewer than that if you get the right people.
Some of the few requirements we have for clubs is that they are at least 20 miles from an existing club, that they are not discriminatory and that their bylaws contain a statement to the effect that the club will follow the rules of the organization which has licensed a particular event.
