Want to here about it getting worse? One of my hunting buds works for Winchester ammo and they are out of material and can not get any at this time.

You can buy plenty of .22 ammo on gunbroker.com, but the prices are ridiculous!

No you can thank everyone that thought the sky was falling and ran out and bought every box that could be found.

x2 My local gun dealer will only allow people to buy two boxes of ammo at a time. So im doing good on 22 shells. Im glad he hasnt got consumed by the greed that most dealers and people buying shells have fallen to!

This means War drop the 22's and get out the 12 gauges!!!!!!

that might have been the case for a week or so... its not the case now... if it was stores would just order more and companies would be making more.... you do realize money is the name of the game.... the government is controling all of this if not bullets would be plentiful and economical

I don't buy it. It is simply supply and demand. A massive hysteria hit the market and the suppliers reap the rewards. Now with supplies depleted it causes more demand high prices have not done what normally happens by slowing demand. As soon as the hysteria dies down and everyone quits buying every box out on the shelf then things will return to normal.

thats just it... it want stop because there is no supply

I have heard 2 stories from reliable sources. 1 is the government is buying almost every single round companies are producing and 2 is the government has hired all ammo companies to make all army ammunition so they don't have time to make ours.

Posted by blueboy90 on 04-16-2013 11:13 PM:

i cant think of any other product to where after a reasonable amount of time the supply could not keep up with the demand. something just doesnt add up right. why isnt the supply being ramped up by some of these companies to better meet the demand? you cant hardly get any ammo anywhere

I hope all the .22 hoarders are on the opposite side from me when the shooting starts. Its not hunters who have bought everyone out. Yall can bet on that. Just look at gov ammo buying online for the last 4.5 yrs. Then wonder. What they buying all that for.

This could be the reason. Looks like Ammo mfgs. not supplying civilian markets until gov. contracts are filled.

At this time, the military gets a significant majority of their ammunition from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri. Every couple of years, the contract for manufacturing ammunition is sent out for bids, and the quotations are reviewed. The re-bid time for the next contract is coming up – due October 2013. While that is more than a year away, whenever a military contract of this magnitude comes up, there are significant uncertainties of change in operations by the new winner of the bid. And, with any change in operations, there’s also the strong possibility of a significant delay in supply.

What the military is doing right now, then, is a very reasonable response to an uncertain future supply chain and a possible change in their manufacturing base. They are stockpiling more ammo than may be needed by the military, but which might actually be available to the commercial market once the contract is all settled and the new contractor is in place and up to full operation. \

So, it’s kinda a bucket of worms . . . strong possibility of uncertain ammo manufacturing capacity during this time of real transition – probably – maybe.

It just so happens that Lake City is also a main source of component parts for aftermarket reloaders and resellers of ammunition, too. With the military buying nearly everything Lake City is producing right now, the resellers and aftermarket reloaders are finding their supply is getting mighty tight, too

i have enough 22s to last for years.i use to hunt with a old man and he told me to always keep plenty of shells because someday you may night be able to get any.i didnt think about it much back then, but if i was at a store that sold 22 shells i would buy a couple of boxes just to have. that old feller is dead and gone now,but thanks to him i have shells.one thing bout it,the folks that make shells have job security, thems the only people that does these days.
