hello

I used old blanket

I dont remember if i used hay or straw but i think it was straw and it worked well cuz she could move it to make a "nest" for her and the babies.

Shavings can cause little bumps in them, where it looks like mites or fleas

Old blankets can get gross and when i used one the puppies goy wrapped up in it and a few died

The large size, low dust pine shavings from Tractor Supply seem to work fine.

I like a piece of old carpet, easy to change every couple days until the pups are a couple weeks old, then hay.

I used a heat pad the first 3 weeks

my dog whelped 6 pups march 7th. I brought herand the pups in the house for the first week and kept her in the bathroom Found out shes house broke .It was in the 20's at night. Then I put a heat pad in the whelping box and put her and the pups outside. I removed the heat pad last week and replaced it with pine shavings. All of the pups made it and are doing well. What a man will do for his dogs.
