Sweet corn bread in butter milk
Poor folks get to eat dessert too. I remember growing up and wouldn't eat my corn bread during supper so I could have it with some milk afterwards. Just reminiscing today.
My grandpa does that this day ! An my great grandma wood always sit her bread aside rather it be cornbread or hoe cake biscuits whatever bread it was an pour her coffee over it an leave it for last an that was her dessert!
If that aint country it'll hairlip the pope...
Never heard of the coffee thing, I would try it though! I like crumbling up that hoe cake and pouring left over juices from greens, peas, etc. on there.
O yea that's good to an I love fryin up a big ole pan of fat back an pourin the grease over some fresh maters an cucumbers an fried taters!
I always make enough cornbread that I can have it the next day ,with milk over it just like cereal in a bowl .

I can't handle butter milk. I eat my cornbread with regular ol milk. Even if its got butter milk in the cornbread. I think its that sour smell what gets me if its straight up.

Whats sweet cornbread? If you use plain meal instead of self rising meal, now your makin' a pone of bread.
We had a cast iron skillet at the house and that was all it was used for to make corn bread I'd never ate sweet corn bread until I was at my mother in laws I thought she had ruined it I didn't know she meant for it to be that way it was an interesting conversation

What about crackling cornbread. Yall ever eat it? Its the best I promise you. Jason all the cornbread here is white. What you talking bout yeller cornbread? I can't handle no sugar or syrup in it either. You got to use a black skillet if you want it to be any count. Granny and papa use to use the term pone of cornbread way more than I hear it today.

Chuck, that looks alot like what we call " fried bread ". We just use the same batter as if baking bread, but fry it instead.
