didnt quit...

So some of y'all read my rants and raves last weekend...I was on the fence about hanging up the competition stuff all together due to a horrible cast..and a couple other rough casts weekends prior...

I've had bad casts in the past....I've had some great casts...I've had regular olecasts where everything goes fine...

For whatever rreason I feel like if I quit I let the cheaters win...and I let my dog down...although I know he don't know if he wins or has a title or anything I feel like I owe it to him...and his sire and dam...


I sucked it up and went tonight....even though I am still salty over last weekend...


I am glad I went....club had a nice turn out...5 registered casts and at least 3 nice champion casts...

The hunt went great and we all got along...no bickering, fighting, complaining, cheating etc...we even laughed and joked a bit...was a good night in the woods and in the end the best dog in the cast won like it should have...



So...I write this as a reminder to myself...and to anyone else that competition hunts...you will likely run into bad apples and cheaters...but don't let it ruin you...if competition hunting is something you enjoy and you want to do you just have to take the bad that comes with it sometimes...


I will likely never go back to that club that I was at last weekend....my cast wasn't the only corrupt cast at that club that night...so I will no longer waste my time and money supporting that club...

Well said. I some what feel the same way. It's hard to make yourself go to a comp hunt when you can pleasure hunt and come home happy.

Exactly the same thing in the shows.

I hung it up as well....I was sick and tired of some that thought they were just untouchable. I was tired of the fact it was no longer fun just because of PEOPLE.

Well, I received 2 phone calls, out of the blue, from 2 separate people who I regard as great sportsman and women. They regenerated my feelings and showed me that this was a sport I love with hounds I love.

Take the good with the bad and stay true to yourself and your hounds. You'll come out a winner every time!!!!

Always have to see it for what it is . Don't always judge the club unless you're sure it is the way they do things . You might run into the same cast members anywhere you go and they may not even belong to that club .

Dale, I've NEVER had a good hunt at that club and go at least once or twice a year or more...

My buddy hunted the same night I did...came back with a similar horror story...drew out 2 buddies that weren't gunna loose and weren't packing a dog to win it right...they made one guy so made he withdrew...my buddy stayed and they kept it up... at the end they circled a 12ft slick tree so that they'd have a cast winner.....

I've brought back cast wins to every club I've hunted at except that one....a little odd when I think about that...the dogs I run aren't the best in the world....but they win their share of casts...


It is hard to take the bad nights...mostly because of the time and money wasted....but its something a competition hunter has to deal with sometimes....


A good judge makes a world of difference and really sets the ton for the hunt...
