Dog Barked out

I've seen threads on here before where someone asked how to fix a dogs mouth who's barked out but I can't find it now. Just had a dog brought down from Maryland and I think he barked himself out cause he's hoarse. He tries to bark and all you get is a low pitch push of air. Any suggestions on what I might do to get his mouth back?

may have to put bark collar on him to keep him from continuing to try to bark. thats what I had to do to mine before. basically rest the vocal cords they are probably swollen. a honey/lemon mixture could help soothe the throat. much like you would take for a sore throat. antibiotics wont do anything unless he has an infection except build his immunity to the drug when you really need them

I have put vicks on the throat of 2 of my dogs when they barked themselves hoarse. After a daily rub for about a week they got better. Still needed the bark collar for a while, but they are both as loud as they were before they got hoarse

I recently had this happen. I made a mixture of honey, yellow mustard, & lemon juice. Used a syringe and gave'em 2 doses a day. Plus rubbed vicks on his throat. Also got some stuff from the vet. I think it's called DMSO, not sure. It's a anti - inflamtory, it's clear and looks like baby oil. You just put it on there back / neck. Plus I used throat spray before hunting. I've heard some people talk about something you give chickens that they say is a sure fire way to cure it. Don't know the name of it though, wish I did.

Thanks everyone for the advise. I've put a bark collar on him and I'm headed to the store to get the stuff needed to make the mixture. Appreciate the advise. I would like to know what the stuff is that they give chickens though, got my curiosity up now. Thanks again.

after reading on the bottle where it says cattle will lose thier hair at the injection site i did'nt think it was a good idea to be putting it down a dogs throat.
resting the dogs vocal cords seems to be the best.
vet did a throat culture on one for me and the dog had strep throat bacteria. took predizone and antibiotics for 5 weeks. with predizone the dog has to be gradually raised up on the dosage then weaned back down off it gradually.

3o days good dry bed wet its dog food

Really depends on why the dog is barked out. Steroids and rest is best. I've used LA 200 and it did work but mine was hoarse bad for no apparent reason. Wasn't barked out. 3 days of LA fixed her.
