Southern English Days Thanks

Southern English Days was a great success again this year. No rain!!! Even though it was cooler than normal for late March, we had a very good turnout. Each day got better and by Saturday, it was warm enough to shed the coats.

As those that have put on big events know, it takes a lot of help to do it well. We'd like to thank all those that came and participated in the event and made it such a success, but we'd like to give special thanks to those who helped out...and every little thing helps.

To those that helped in the kitchen on Thursday: a HUGE thank you for making it so much easier for me. Our friend and hunting buddy William White that helped get everything ready for supper, Linda Webb that worked like crazy helping with the breakfast without even being asked, Shanna Simpson who jumped in and helped serve breakfast. Thanks to Chris Gerth and his son, Wyatt, for helping unload the truck. Wyatt continued to offer his help every day. Kids like this make you proud to be part of this great sport! Thanks to Wayne Seagraves for helping with the food for Thursday. Thanks to the Boy Scouts of Madison for running the kitchen the rest of the weekend. The proceeds from the kitchen help ensure that every scout in the troop gets to go to camp.

Thanks to Clay Tranten, Randy Gibson, Chris Ridenour and Steve Wall for doing little things that mean more than you will ever know. Thanks to Wayne Wall, Treasurer and treasured member of the Dan River Coon Club, that was there every morning and every evening to make sure all the facilities were working and clean. Thanks to Colby Wall and Mike Tilley for being non-hunting guides. Thanks to Max Summerlin for always doing such a great job with our trophies.

Thanks to Audrey Graham and Rose Hogan for everything they do. Rose never asked what can she do to help, she just jumps in and does it. Thanks to all the officers and board members of the Southern English Association.

Thanks to our bench show judges each day, Mike Bertrand and Randy Hall. An even bigger thanks to Terri Hall who brought a delicious home cooked meal for a number of us on Saturday. What a treat and boy, did it hit the spot!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Gardin family. Southern English days would not be the same without you. David has served as MOH for every Southern English Days since they've been at Madison starting in 1999. Having a good MOH makes a good event. He's proven that. Eva not only helps in the kitchen and with the hunt, she feeds us, supports us and when I'm exhausted on Saturday, she thinks for me. Tyler is always helping, too, getting drinks from the truck and bringing in wood, whatever he is asked to do. We are truly blessed to have them as part of our coon hunting family, but even more blessed to have them for friends.

We hope everyone that attended enjoyed it as much as we did. We look forward to seeing you all back next year!

Thank you,
Darrell and Rhonda Brown
