$100 fine and 10 days in jail for shooting a hunting dog.
Remember the man that shot the dog at white river refuge while the owner had it on the leash? He got a $100 fine and 10 days in jail. The hunter got 10 days in jail and 1000 fine for trespassing, what a crock. The shooter also got 6 months in jail and $2000 fine for assault.

The guy can still sue the jerk in civil court and should win easily based on the guys conviction for shooting his dog.

A criminal conviction does not mean an easy win in a civil case. The hunter was also convicted of a crime? Different states different outcomes.....but civil cases are worse than criminal cases and drag a lot longer.

Just sayin'...
As one that hunts the White River Refuge in Arkansas each year, I'm a bit concerned that I may face 10 days in jail (trust me, I don't think anyone would want to stay in jail anywhere for ten days much less in the poorest county in the state) if my dog gets out of the refuge and enters someone's private land. There are spots that I've hunted over there where that is a possibility. You can bet I won't be turning loose there in the future. Like most hunters, I will want to recover my dog and may find myself in jeopardy.
I think in my years of experience this has to be the first instance of a hunter doing jail time for trespassing in conjunction with coon hunting. Can anyone else cite an instance when this has been the case?

This one has a little different twist than most trespassing cases. They ran into the land owner before they got the dog and was told not to go get the dog. The hunter did anyway. Because the land owner was telling him that he was going to kill the dog. He also threatened to shoot the hunter. When the hunter went and got the dog the land owner shot the dog on the leash.

A lot of them river rats would just as soon shoot you as the dog! Not defending the shooter by any means but you have to know where you are! These people don't work, dont pay taxes, and live off that land! They get grumpy for even seeing Somone else! They grow weed, moonshine, ect. And they just don't care so my point is be safe and know where you are!
