2 hour 10 min. 13.31 mile race

Last night we ran a coon for 2 hours and 10 minutes in some real thick pine plantation. The track was 13.31 miles long from start to fininsh then caught it and killed it on the ground.

It's been a while since we got after one that refused to climb. If you have never hunted in young pine plantation, you are missing a dog test. It's so thick you have to beat your way through the briars and youpon bushes that are almost impenatrable. It was a good hunt. A lot of hounds would have just pulled up short.

Posted by john Duemmer on 03-22-2013 02:09 AM:

Wow. how thick could it have been, that coon averaged over 6 miles per hour. Lol.

6.14 over 2 hours is wide open!

Posted by Tom Jones on 03-22-2013 02:21 AM:

U dont reckon they may have horse raced and chased everything else in the woods and stumbled up on a coon do ya? Jus askin cause i have never hunted in young pine, cactus fields can be ruff though

We were getting concerned about off game when we heard the coond scream. Big, probably barren sow. I've been in on several like this over the years but I don't ever remeber it being a sow coon. I you just can't believe it and you feel you have a coon dog, come on down sometime in Febuary or March. We have a place called the Swag where many a coondog owner has been disapointed.

Sounds like a heck of a race. We have coon that take to the cat tails and are VERY hard to ever get to climb. had one last fall that went 2 hours before we pushed our way in and started catching dogs. They had him caught a few times, but hard to hold a 20-30 pound coon.....
I feel sort of bad for folks who have never got to hear dogs run these types of tracks.

I feel sorry for those that have to listen to it. Imagine if that were in a cast? You suppose the smarter dog woulda just gave up and went and found an easy one? I'd like to think mine would be smart enough to find the easy one rather then running their legs off for 2 hours.

Yep the best music in the world, we got some big tule-cattail-briar patches around here too. Its all about the dogs. I dont want a dog to ever quit in coon thin hunting spots.

Why don't YOU get off the message board Al!!! Instead of commenting on something relevant you attempt to show your low intellect by making some smart a$$ comment toward a person. Grow up! Didn't know u were the UKC form policeman! If you don't like what people say on here then I suggest you take some more of your xanax, slow up on the booze, reconcile with your wife and family and take up meditation. Apparently, you are a troubled individual...X2! I've Never picked a fight or got into one that I haven't finished. If you don't think so then let 's have at it! Sorry I don't appeal to your opinion on other posts. Guess what....you can kiss my a$$.

Im pretty sure Id have lit mines world up. Id have had to see the Coon not to. Here at the house. Thick pines mean speed goats or rabbits, yotes or fox..I've never actually ran a Coon through em. None I can remember anyhow but I do believe it could happen.

First of all Cody (and I doubt that's your real name) almost every post you put on here is negative and putting someone or there dog down in one way or another and I'm not the first one to think that about you. It sucks when someone constantly puts something negative about you even though its "just their opinion" doesn't it? You guys think you can post any opinions you want but now you want to tell me I can't? As far as intellect, you and certain others remind me of young children.........when someone says something you don't like you must resort to throwing a temper tantrum but yet you should be able to say anything you want. Pathetic lol by the way what was your last username? The one you got banned under.

The coon was lapping them is the only reason they caught it. Sounds like our big bean fields coons will run all night like rabbits and never climb.

what a load of crap, I (and plenty others) think the same thing about you! And ,that is my real name....never had a user name or been banned from anything on here or other wise. As I've said before...if you don't like what I post then don't read it!

People wonder why such a high percentage of these pups never make real coondogs. The bigger question should be why so many coonhunters never made it.

If my dog wants to run for 2 hours, he can run for 12. I will go find him the next day or whenever I get to it or someone finds him and calls me to come get him. I quit chasing running dogs about 5 years ago.
