Anybody stop to think......

Why there is such a shortage of ammo? Why there is no media coverage about the shortage? Why theres no explanation (low supplies of brass, lead, powder?). Ammo companies should be doubling the amount of employees to keep up with demand. Local gun stores cant get ammo or guns? They cant even get turkey shells????

Can someone explain why?...............

Same reason there is a shortage around Christmas time on certain "hot" gifts. The harder it is to get something the more convinced a person is that they need it. Simple marketing strategy. The manufacturers create the shortage and people end up buying more than they ever needed worried about future shortages. Get a few internet stooges to run with some conspiracy theory stories [even the NRA debunked the 160 billion bullets conspiracy] and people go wild. Folks are getting played big time with this "ammo shortage" marketing strategy.

It's not a conspiracy theory the majority of people that own guns feel threatened by the current administration so they went out and purchased more ammunition than normal. The ammo manufactures will catch up.

Congressman Asks Big Sis to Explain Huge Ammo Purchases

“Congress has a responsibility to ask Secretary Napolitano as to exactly why these purchases have occurred”

Paul Joseph Watson

March 19, 2013

New Jersey Congressman Leonard Lance (R) has demanded an explanation from Secretary Janet Napolitano as to why the Department of Homeland Security is buying huge amounts of bullets.

Asked about the federal agency’s purchase of over 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition over the past year – enough to wage a 20 year plus war – as well as thousands of armored vehicles – Lance called on Congress to get involved.

“I think Congress should ask the Department about both of those issues and I would like a full explanation as to why that has been done and I have every confidence that the oversight committee ….should ask those questions,” said Lance, adding that he shared a belief, “that Congress has a responsibility to ask Secretary Napolitano as to exactly why these purchases have occurred.”

The Congressman said he was “concerned” and that his goal was ensuring Americans “continued to live in a country based on freedom and individual rights,” adding that he hoped Congress could get answers on the reasons behind the huge ammunition purchases by the DHS.

Lance, who is the U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 7th congressional district, was speaking at a Morristown Tea Party Organization meeting on Friday.

Last week, the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), a lobbying organization which represents governors affiliated with the Democratic Party, started an ad campaign calling on Americans to sign a petition demanding Sarah Palin be denounced for “extremist” rhetoric after the former Governor of Alaska expressed concern about the bullet purchases in a Facebook post.

Earlier this month, Forbes Magazine called for a “national conversation” on the matter despite claims by mainstream media and leftist websites that the issue had been “debunked”. As we documented, the sole source for claiming the story was “debunked” came from a single quote by a DHS official carried in a February 14 Associated Press report.

The AP report regurgitated claims by the federal agency that the bullets were bought in bulk to save money and were for training purposes only.

However, as former Marine Richard Mason told reporters with WHPTV News in Pennsylvania last week, hollow point bullets (which make up the majority of the DHS purchases) are not used for training because they are more expensive than standard firing range rounds.

“We never trained with hollow points, we didn’t even see hollow points my entire four and a half years in the Marine Corps,” Mason said.

The White House may paint worries over drones in American skies, federal agencies buying up billions of bullets and local police forces arming themselves with military-style equipment as just “bogeyman” issues of the radical right, but an interview on New York City’s WABC Radio reveals even the left is starting to grow worried.

Medea Benjamin, co-founder of Code Pink, a left-wing “peace and social justice movement” known for its colorful marches and protests, told WABC host Aaron Klein the potential for the Obama administration to abuse its growing domestic police power is “extremely troubling.”

Klein asked Benjamin, author of “Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control,” if she was concerned that military-style drones now authorized to fly over U.S. skies could be used against American citizens, the same question that prompted U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., to filibuster in the Senate earlier this month.

“Very much so,” Benjamin replied. “We see a militarization of the U.S. police forces here in the United States, and it’s a very troubling tendency.”

Furthermore, Benjamin charged she was “upset” that liberal Democrats – who might question and fight the federal government’s growing police powers under a Republican administration – “have been very quiet when this is happening under Obama.”

Rance, you need to reread the NRA bulletin. Yes, the purchases took place. No it is not a conspiracy that DHS is stocking up on ammo to declare war on you. The NRA bulletin makes a very strong case that their purchase was a very reasonable amount for a group so large that has to do so much target practice as part of their job requirements. As Lee points out, and is right about, is that the shortage is primarily caused by citizens purchasing more ammo than usual.
Jay, maybe you could point Congressman Lance to the NRA bulletin and also run Lee's explanation by him. btw, Medea's comment is somewhat inaccurate- LIBERAL Democrats are outraged about the drone issue. Centrist Dems are not. I have been involved in anti drone protests for several years. I appreciate the comments and attention brought to the issue by Rand. maybe he and some of you would like to join us at a protest someday?

glad to see you admit the purchases took place. 1.6 billion rounds, i wonder how many times over they could kill the entire united states population with that amount

I read the link an it doesnt address my question. With that being said its simple math. The fact remains that large of a purchase certainly is adding to the ammo shortage right now and hindering folks from being able to go out and buy what they want

If it takes them as many bullets as it did to get the guy in Californa (and the multiple mistaken identity shootings) they many need double that.
