Running and treeing with older dogs
I'm just on a soap box.. And I don't know about any of y'all, but it drives me crazy when people wanna brag on their younger dogs for treeing with an older dog... I just doesn't impress me that a dog runs in and trees a coon then the young dog comes in 3 or 4 minutes later and starts treeing.. Keep on training the me tooing puppy's and see where that gets ya. Sorry if this offends anyone It just doesn't impress me and don't see how it impresses anyone else.

When it comes to dogs ... nope just about anything ... to each their own.
Back in 1983, I had a young dog that started running and treeing. It was common practice back then to run them with an old dog. So i got an old grade walker. My young dog would run track and tree. I would go into the tree search for the coon, and catch the old dog still on his way to the tree.lol
Yes, what you say works if your are a competition hunter, but you should also realize that many people who are training their first dog on here will swell with pride when their young hound starts showing progress whether it is running with an old dog or not.
You really should give those individuals a break.

Yeah and don't get me wrong for pleasure hunting I guess that's great.. I just hate when people think their pup is worth a lot or want to sale it for a big bunch of money cause it will run and tree with other dogs but won't leave out of sight by itself.

im not impressed with one that want run and tree with an old dog so i guess they make them to suit everybody

I hunt mine alone or in pairs at times. And , I'm by myself! Nobody hunts around here anymore...at least about 80 miles from me! I never get lonely, I guess I enjoy my own company. Another good thing about it is I can lie like the devil about how good they did and nobody can disagree. Ha ha. I certainly ain't scared of the dark either! Plus there ain't no cell coverage in most of these woods.

I'm not trying to rag on anyone.. I'm just stating that it's not impressive to me.. I think it's great when two dogs slam one together.. But when all your pup can do is back another dog when it has done absolutely no work.. Now that's not impressive.

Yeah ain't that the truth.. What ain't right is when mine strikes in third and trees first and gets same amount as the dog that strikes first (babbling) and me too's mine and were both sitting with 175... That's what gets me.

I am new to competition hunting been in about 5, but can't you scratch a babbling dog or scratch someone for pitching their dog? You might not get the votes every time, especially if some boys are buddies up but at least you called them on it. I said somethin two weeks ago about this **** dog that was even barking on the leash and the guy withdrew right there, that thing was annoying as hell.

Maybe, I just know a different group of hunters, but most of the hunters I know mostly hunt by their selves. I know they won't have a dog that doesn't bust its butt in there alone or otherwise.

I have a dog that was started with another dog. She was singled out at 10 months old. She does not care what your dog is doing. She prefers to do her own thing. She barks when she smells a coon and that is first or second strike. She also trees first or second. I have hunted on cast where she split treed from the other 3 dogs. So the statement that was made about training me to dogs is incorrect. Single them out when they start putting it together and you will not have a problem. I have another dog here that will run by coon just to get by herself, she trees alone but always gets the bottom end on strike points. How many of these loners struggle with accuracy? I can't count how many trees I walked in on a cast that was empty because these young pups struggle with accuracy.

Anybody that brags up anything on any dog is just not had the dog long enough for it to make you a liar. Hunting young dogs is all about getting them into the woods and to get them in the woods they have to get you excited. I wouldn't take a fella getting excited that his dog ran and treed with another dog as bragging, maybe he is just happy and wanting to tell others about it.
Sure running in treeing with another dog isn't a huge feat, but its progress and there is nothing wrong with being excited about progress if it keeps you taking the young dog out another 10X. People are so life and death about dogs and there progress....geez if it gives a guy a good feeling if his dog goes out and trees with his old dog and he wants to tell the world, live and let live, it isn't hurting a thing. So many bigger issues to worry about in life.

I know what you mean and I always tell people that's great but when people are like yeah man I got a super nice pup.. And I ask oh yeah what's it doing.. They reply man he's been running and treeing with my old dog since he was 10 months and now the dogs say 2 years old and still hasn't been singled out.
