I bought my hound Bella at almost three years old from some hillbilly that didn't hunt. She was never let out of the kennel and weighed probably 85-90lbs. Got her in shape and out hunting. Now she has put a couple of Grnitech to shame in her time. I wouldn't trade her for anything, or any amount of money.

Live trap yourself a coon, and turn it out in a spot that you know well. Go grab a different vehicle and your dog and give it 15-20 min. and turn her loose. You should be able to see everything the coon did, and tell what the hound is sniffing at. Extend your time periods and praise your hound when she does right. If it is there, it won't take much to shine.

I agree he is worth some work. A person never knows. Don't give up until you have given that dog time and an honest effort. what I mean by time is 2 things. The dog needs time to get to know you, trust you and like you. I feel with this relationship you can bring out the positive in the dog. This doesn't happen overnight. The second time thing is time in the woods hunting and time just doing training, like working over a caged coon.

If after that, he doesn't make it, then he doesn't make it. Shoot him and be done with it. Don't pass him around.
