Adverse effects of hunting a Stud Dog?
I've seen on this board and heard in general folks talking about not breeding their male because they want to push him in the hunts or because they feel like it will mess his hunting ability up.
I'm curious as to what specifically breeding him will cause him to do, or not do in the woods?

Some will pay females too much attention after they are bred. It seems to take a little bit of focus away on some until the check things out. It is a gamble. Just speaking from what I have seen.
It depends on the dog.
Some want to get a date. Some want to be the only date. Some want to be the boss.
Just like doing anything else you don't like. If you don't let the dog know you don't like it, they will continue to do it.
I have had several studs that would go hunting with a female in heat in the dog box. They knew the difference in work and play. Haven't sen any adverse effects from breeding males. Seen a lot of adverse effects from lazy trainers. Lol!

i have not seen my males act bad after breeding them.
that kind of behavior is curved way before its time for them to breed females. alot of dogs are allowed to kick up the turf or pee on everything multiple times, i do not allow theses things.they can pee on their time, when they are in the woods they are on my time!
ol drum would go hunting and tree a coon with open season female! after the tree ,hewould then let you know she intrested him!!

2nd hand info
I have heard that one of the heavily bred walker studs, got to where he didnt want to hunt after he was bred heavily to. All he wanted to do was bother males and females alike after that.
Once again this is 2nd hand info....could just be the usual unfortunate BS that seems to plague this sport.

hormones are cranking in the young hound the same as any other creature i know of coming into maturity----some may not be affected, some might need minor adj. to their manners while others might check into poking anything close........alot of stud owners will not allow live breeding untill they are good and mature. the thought being not to take unnecessary risks with a.i. so easy any more----also no worries about std's with this approach.
I'm NO Pro
Double D Jr....I'm No Pro on it but in my on personal experience ... Never had a problem with it... As was stated in previous above post, controlling their behavior is the answer to any adverse problems... I will tell you a story that I was told many many years ago by a number one coonhunters and breeder ... He said if you have a male dog that you see has that something special ... He told me to find someone willing to breed their female to my hound, then to bring the female to him 2 or 3 times while doing it the same way as far as the way you bring him outta the lot or off the chain and always have female in the same place. And to in courage him he is doing great lol ! But then load him up with her in dog box in separate sides to start with and taking him over to a place to turn loose to hunt, then whime having both dogs still on lead atraps give him what far if he even attempted to pay attention to her.. And next day go thru the breeding again with praise and then repeating the going hunting ritual over until you have his attention on when he should or should not try to mate a female.... Whewww!! Lol that being said I did do it with old JYD when he was 11 months old and never had a problem .. Ever !! So it may work... With AD I did the same since it seemed to work with Dog... But have seen others do just fine with no problems and they didnt have the ritual so .. As other have said its got a lot to do with the dog.. Well I guess my book is done ... Sorry so long LOL !!!

hunting
a dog extremely hard, like getting them ready for the world hunt or other big event can & will lower your dogs sperm count & change the shape of the sperm, seen this on some dogs Ive taken to nevergone for breeding that were being hunted HARD
