Interesting rules question

I had an unusual rules question posed to me the other night and was just curious of correct procedure. At the very end of a cast, 1 dog gets treed way in the country and the handler trees it before hunt time expires. The cast winning dog is nearby and caught. Even if the treed dog has a coon he can not win the cast. If they go score his tree no one will make the deadline. Now what? Fortunatly in this case the guy with the treed dog agreed to let the cast go, but what if for whatever reason he hadn't and demanded his tree be scored?

dont know the answer but to me if its not possible to win i would think hes on his own if it comes to making dead line.... would like to know this also

your lucky he was a good sport!! or you might not had a cast winner. he could of demanded the other cast members be scratched for not scoring his tree.. if he wanted to be a A hole about it.. glad it worked out.

ORRR the guy didn't have his own ride back ???

Lucky maybe, I'm assuming leaving him and his dog in the woods without transportation back would not have been acceptable .

i just think it would be a very bad sport who would not let at least one member of the cast go and get the card back whatever is actually suppose to happen... i think if it was my dog and i could win but knew there was no way i could get the card back by doing so i would just withdraw and let the next guy have it

so long as the winners score and card are filled out correctly there is no need to go score the tree. because like you said he could not win the cast winner was already determined.

CW. is never a done deal until the card is handed to the MOH.
Logical thing to do would be to send 1 person back with the card. leaving a majority to score the dogs tree just in case.

I wasn't on this cast, I was the MOH of the event (RQE). The question came back as kind of a what if question whereas it had happened on the cast, but what if the guy hadn't been a good sport and had demanded his tree be scored. I don't think a ride was an issue. It really got me thinking, guess I would have had no other recourse than to scratch the cast members who refused to score it? I would sure have felt terrible about doing that though.

Rule book says all cast members have to go score the tree together ? According to some rules are rules

Posted by elvis on 03-11-2013 11:58 PM:

my opinion is that if a cast member insisted the whole cast go score the dog even though it had no bearing on the outcome of the cast other than insuring the cast winner would not make deadline, he should be wrote up for handler misconduct.

You cant turn in an unfinished incomplete score card..... The treed dog would have to be withdrawn by his handler signed and turned in... If the man demands his tree be scored the cast will not get back in time.
