HTX Hunts

Our club has had 3 HTX Hunts, everyone seems to really enjoy them. In the 3 hunts, we have hunted 33 dogs with 18 passes.
Just wondering how many other clubs are having HTX Hunts? and how people like them? and what percentage of dogs are passing? and do you think these test are a fair evaluation of a dogs ability?
Let's hear what you have to say!

I would call that a major success. 11 dog average today is nothing to sneeze at.

Our club held 2 HTX's every other month untill Turkey season started. We would still be having them but during turkey season there's a lot of places we can't hunt. We averaged 6 dogs a HTX with I think a 47% pass rate. I feel the hour is plenty of time to evaluate a hound. We normally have a mixture of hunters, mostly older though. I'm a supporter of the HTX program because I feel in today's times we need more options due to smaller places to hunt and to draw more people to the sport.

Yes, I do think our club is blessed with some fine hunters and most all of them hunt some fair hounds.
In our three hunt test we have had one dog pass all three, Ch Nite Ch Black Ice owned by Ray Dismukes and Kenwood Maeker. Three dogs have passed two, and nine have passed one. This has really encouraged everyone to participate. We are hoping to have 20 dogs entered before long.
For the next six months, we will be having two per month, rotating between Tuesday and Friday nights. We hunt two rounds. You hunt one round and inspect one round. If for some reason a person can't inspect, we have a couple of older hunters that fill in and inspect. Has worked great at our club.

I don't do the night hunts but I am going to start the HTX hunts this way it is my dog against the coon and the clock. I have to travel alot to do them but it will be a good way for me and my boys to get into the night hunts.

I think we need to encourage more clubs to have HTX. They are a win-win situation for everyone invloved; club, hunter, and dog.
I don't see a down side for anyone. Especially the older hunters that have a hard time keeping up with a cast while pushing through some of these thick brush areas. They can hunt at there own pace. I had an older hunter as my inspector last Friday night. He love it. Made him feel very usefull to our club. Really enjoyed having him.

htx hunts

I entered my first one a few weeks ago and passed it. I think they are a good thing and would like to see them catch on.

I enjoy them... My "Rock" dog passed 3 out of 4 attempts.. and as soon as my club has theirs I will have "Taz" there to make her HTX... This is something I will do with every dog I have or at least attempt, but as far as I am concerned if they can't earn the HTX degree no use to have them or at least no use to try and hunt them...
