pups

I have 7 month old walker and he has been out 10- 12 times and will go off with other dogs but with come back in 5 or 10 minutes. When should he really start running with other dogs full time ?

Most all of them do that for a little while. Time in the woods doesn't mean much. He's just not ready. Let him mature alittle. Keep taking him but don't expect too much until he's about 10 months or so. Don't listen to the crap you hear about a world beater at 6 months. Thoughs dogs are rare as hens teeth! When the other dogs are off doing their thing and he's walking around with you on the creek hell strike one on his own and tree it too. That's how it starts! You'll be so excited you wont even know there are other dogs out there hunting...just you and your dog.

Most likely is coming back because it is getting left behind. I would not keep doing it because you might just end up with a real good me too dog. 7 months is still way to young in my opinion and would take it easy on the pup for sure as far as nights in the timber goes. And for the last part about running with other dogs full time that kinds of goes with the me too part. Hope this helps.

My buddy had me hunt his dog and an old dog one nite...

I got sick of him coming back...

She was running a good track..i loaded him in the box and drove close to the tree....he came unglued....i didnt let him out...i let her tree a couple minutes and let him cry...

After that he decided he wanted to go hunting and have fun!

He was about the same age..but was treeing barn cats and squirrels real goodand was ready to start
