Iams dog food?

Now, I don't feed any of my dogs Iams, never have, BUT I was wondering how many people have heard about how Iams tests on dogs in their laboratories and if anyone knows whether there is truth behind the horror stories or not? I have read A LOT about how Iams takes dogs and hack off parts of their muscles in the hind legs, to test whether or not their food makes muscles grow back. I have also read about how they will purposely cause organ failure and diseases in the animals to test their products on them, or to preform tests on the organs themselves when the animal passes away in a few days/weeks. I have watched a couple videos on YouTube about it, and I guess it isn't in the ACTUAL Iams lab at their home base (although they won't let people in to see their labs, so who knows). Supposedly it is in their outside laboratories that this has happened, and could still be happening in. I have seen beagles on there as their test "subjects", as well as numerous other animals (not really sure where or how they get them). I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this, and whether or not it is fact or fiction? A few other companies have been known to do some testing like this on dogs, but I am not 100% sure which ones though.

Iams Dog Food

Hannah, I have a well-documented Pet Food Research article here which you should see. It is dated June 2012, and it is from a reliable source whom I have known for several years. The article describes how PETA decided to go on a campaign against the Iams brand dog foods approximately 10 years ago. PETA made terrible accusations, but those videos (26 in all) were filmed at ANOTHER research lab which did have some violations. Iams does not use that lab, and does not condone what is done there.

Iams built their OWN research facility in Lewisburg, Ohio. The facility is called the Pet Health & Nutrition Center. ALL of the Iams research dogs & cats are kept there. Testing is done at that facility. They have a Veterinarian on duty, & MANY staff members who handle & interact with these dogs & cats throughout the day.

The dogs have a large fenced-in play area, also. So they are not kept kenneled all day. Frankly, the place is more like a giant day-care center for dogs than a research facility !!

The first clue that your information might not be very accurate should be the PETA name. MOST of what is associated with that group is B.S. - or worse. MANY of their 'videos' are either staged (partially or entirely), or they are 'edited' to the point that they make ANYONE look guilty.

For the record, the Iams company allows their employees to bring their dogs in to work with them.....how many other companies do you know that allow THAT ?? Also, the majority of these dogs brought in to work are dogs that were 'ADOPTED' from the Ohio Pet Health & Nutrition Center (where the Iams research is done). Iams has several thousand employees, & there is a long waiting list of these employees to 'adopt' one of these well-trained & well-socialized dogs (and cats).

The research dogs each have THEIR OWN RAISED BED & TOYS. They are in a climate-controlled modern facility, and each dog is paired with a compatible friend, so no dog is alone. Every dog has a name, also. That facility is STATE-OF-THE-ART; I wish I had a kennel like theirs !!!

According to Iams, more than 70% of the animals participating in these research studies ARE PETS LIVING IN PRIVATE HOMES, or pets from organizations where animals already live (such as service dog organizations, etc.). Several years ago, MY OWN DOGS were used IN MY HOME as research dogs during food trial testing. I had to keep copious notes; it was all rather fascinating !!

My point is, you CANNOT believe what PETA says, or what they claim to have photographed any more. PETA KILLS OVER 90% OF THE DOGS THEY CLAIM TO 'RESCUE'.......It is PETA who is evil, NOT Iams.....Remember PETA'S motto: BETTER DEAD THAN BRED......

THAT should tell you all you need to know.

Thank you soo much for the information!
I figured it was not accurate because PETA produces it, but then other people had stated the same information, so I was not sure WHAT to believe.
Just glad to hear that their dogs are well taken care of, instead of the horrific treatment that some claim goes on there!

Thank you very much again!
I feel a LOT better now!

RESEARCH ANIMALS

ARE MAINTAINED BETTER THAN ANY OTHER ANIMALS . I WORKED WITH ANIMALS USED FOR RESEARCH AND CAN TELL FIRST HAND INSPECTIONS BY USDA , PRIVATE OUTSIDE VETS AND RESEARCH ASOCIATIONS ARE DONE ON A MONTHLY BASIS . WE COULDN'T USE ANYTHING THAT COULDN'T BE STERILIZED AND ALL CAGING WAS STAINLESS STEEL . IT WAS EVEN TOO THE POINT OF NO FOOD OLDER THAN SIX MONTHS FROM DATE OF MANUFACTURE .
