Strike Em All For 50

Everyone says they hate the babblers, but i have come to the concsion that they stop haten em when they get one and do a little winnin with it.
Strike points are designed to reward the dog for hunting hard for a track, but in reality an honest hard hunting strike dog isnt going to get many first strikes hunting against dogs that open consistantly and continually without a track.
We all probably agree that we need strike points so that we can punish a dog with mnus for quitting a track, and most of us could probably agree that the dog that gets treed with the most coon above his head should win the cast.
Why wouldnt 50 strike points across the board acomplish our goal?
How could strikeing for 50 hurt the best dog in the cast?
How would strikeing for 50 change the dogs we breed? (better or worse)
The only way the babblers and automatic strike dogs will ever dissapear from the hunts is to stop rewarding them with the undeserved points.
Maybe im missing something.

changing

This is good and add a count down on the tree,,,,, and I think we have it,

Just forget strike points and put a strike check box. Make it so the dog has to be struck to get tree points.

Makes absolutely no sense if everybody gets the same for strike why get points . Just leave the rule on or before with no points given but recieve a minus if dog quits track

good handler and hound should be able to get by a raddle headed potlicker

Posted by jdc on 03-06-2013 08:37 PM:

John,
How about we only strike them for 50 if a dog is opening when the minute expires. Then maybe people would start breaking them from barking from tail gate to tree. If all strike after minute it can be business as usual. I am wondering what holes people see in this method?

Insane idea! I'll stick w/strike pts. as they R.
Enforce the babbling rule. It's about any judge haveing the kahunna's to do it,& if they cant tell the difference they ought not ta be judgeing.

One question how do you enforce the rule if 3 dogs leave barking and they all strike and they keep the strike open every minute or so. Your dog opens 3 minutes later to the left do you think your getting out voted when they question the call?

Let them ? the call. Let them out vote me .They have that right.I will not make an xcuse for a babbler if they choose to that's ther purrogative.
Being out voted doesn't intimidate me.
But these babblers certainly do not warrant changeing the strike pt.'s.

I think a REAL strike dog should be rewarded. Not some rattle brained idiot. I still think they need to give us a way to deal with the barkers. I don't want everything struck the same. Needs to be some difference. Maybe 50,50,25,25. You can make that 25 up pretty quick with first trees.

50 for all strikes, 125 for first tree with a 30 second countdown on the tree. That would be interesting.

I agree a REAL strike dog should be rewarded. And i think by strikeing all dogs for 50 the REAL strike dog is rewarded more than he is now because in some of these casts the REAL strike dog will be a third or fourth strike dog. As it is now that REAL strike dog starts out with a handicap.
Thats if we agree that a REAL strike dog is one that opens the instant that he smells a coon and only when he smells a coon.

Count me in 2.Its obvious theve gotin good at wining with these babblin mutts. I think they all need a lead pill.

Posted by JeepsandGsds on 03-06-2013 10:48 PM:

I don't think that it would make a difference. It would have to be changed in $kc. Plastic trophies and yellow win slips ain't gonna do it. I think a lot of them run trash and end up deep under a coon. I have heard people admit to there dog doing it.

the use of fedders in my opion has brought on more babblers. Most people who have fedders turn lose within 100yds or closer.
If the guide has the babbler he is going to be hard to beat.

If your gonna give everybody the same strike you might as well do away with them all together.

I will say this..... I got my share of first strikes with gauge while campaigning him. (Including on Big D in a pro cast final four) and NOBODY ever accused him of being a babbler so I see some of your points that there are the babblers too but why put the ones that just go harder and get struck quicker at disadvantage because you all can't make one wait a minute or keep a real track open. If you don't know the difference and if you get beat by those babblers consistently then you need to to get one that trees more coons. I've never honestly been beat because one babbled and I've been beat ALOT!

I'm

62 years old and hunted to many hunts of all kc's to count and i have never seen a dog minused or scratched for babbling and very very few for fighting.
