26/18 Feed

I was just wondering of your 26/18 feeds. What brand is the best quality. Im not talking the upper level feeds like Pro Plan (my favorite) or Native or the forty some dollar a bag feeds. I mean the regular ones that have corn in them as 2nd, 3rd or 4th ingredient in them. They usually sell around 26-32 dollars a bag feed. A few yrs ago Pzazz made a great feed but it has changed. the last few yrs I have mainly fed Diamond and Sport Mix. JUST WONDERING WHAT EVERYONE THINKS IS THE BEST IN THIS CLASS.

The Hi-Standard 26-18 for price and quality is very hard to beat. been feeding it for years

I liked the Black Gold in that range when I fed it but that was 4-5 years ago the price got out of hand on it.

The Sportmix in the blue bag is pretty good and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to feed.

Tuffy Gold and Tuffy Pro are excellent quality feeds made by the company that makes Nutrisource and some other expensive feeds.

Much better quality than Diamond or Black Gold and many others.

The prices is right too.

dog feed

i fed sportmix for awhile dogs got to where they quit eating it fed prime they all liked it but it was abit pricy here buddy started selling joy 24/20 i finaly switch to it like it pretty well

chestnut mountain has a 26-18 feed that ive fed and i liked i am feeding the 24-20 cmf right now probably one of the best ive ever fed and it runs around $22 a bag

I feed "howland" its 27/18....... its soy free and runs right at 30 bucks a bag. Dogs look great and dont poop like crazy.

I use Dr. Tim's Pursuit, 30/20. We split up a 50 bag pallet of 44# bags.

We pay around $1.15lb shipped, no tax. Less than Pro Plan or Eukanuba.

Momentum is a bit more, not sure if a 35/25 is needed outside of the Iditarod.

You can also buy single bags on Petflow.com in 44lb size but not as cheap as the whole pallet.

Inukshuk makes a fabulous food too. Shipped direct.

On the budget side, Tuffy Gold and Tuffy Pro are great foods too.

Dog food

I'm a animal nutritionist at NCSU and a coon hunter and have done studies on hound dog food more specific to coon hounds I have found that the protein to fat ratio is not all that important it is the total calorie intake that matter the most I'm not taking away from any food brand but have tried most all of the major brands that houndsman feed there dogs I found if you hunt your dogs hard that by feeding a good puppy food was the best food for a running hound it helped the dog by keeping a good working weight on the dogs and you feed less of the puppy food because it's higher in calories so it can help the hunter by not having to buy as much food because you feed less of it and the dogs performance seemed to improve once you figure the correct amount of food to feed it each day most puppy foods have a little higher protein to fat ratio than adult foods do but in the end the amount of calories per cup of food is what made the biggest difference dogs need protein and fat to stay at a top performance level but when the fat is reduced to a lower amount the protein becomes more of a filler than having nutritional value to the dogs

Dr. Simonsens haven't heard that dog food brought up in years. That's a local rendering plant here that used to sell dog food. Our feed store sold it awhile but the opossums wouldn't even eat it.
