Shy Dog
I just bought an 8 month old male pup that is extreemly skittish I mean u cant hardly get your hands on him. Can anyone give me some ideas on how to get him over it or is he a lost cause?
sometimes this is hard to fix
First place I would start is to chain the pup to a box and not in a kennel. When you make over the pup,get down to eye level with it so as not to intimidate it as much from you tower overing it! Treats and gentle voice will help. I've found the chain to box the best to start with. Some will adjust in time and unfortunately some won't. Do yourself a big favor and the next pup you buy, have the owner stand back where the pup can't see him and you go and call and handle the pup first hand without him. If a pup is bold and outgoing, it will come to you with no problem. Best kind to work with!! If it shys away, find another!! Good luck with it!!

Sometimes this will help. Get a small to medium cow bell
and put on his collar. When he walks around or runs it will
make a noise. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

My question is WHY would you buy a dog that skiddish? Obviously there is a temperment issue.

i would try what mr.danny said.try to become the dogs best friend, ive had it work for me.
Hahaha. Jay. lol
You just get those fishing poles ready.
I know its going confuseyou but i'm going to tell you just the opposite of what most will. I think you need to be stern with the dog and not worry about if he likes you or not. Get a shock collar and a rope about 20 feet. TIE THE ROPE ON HIM and let him get away from you then tell him to come AND MEAN IT WHEN YOU TELL HIM, if he don't pull him to you, do it a few times until he knows what you want then if he don't come bump him LIGHTLY and pull him to you, do this several times THEN start turning up the power. You are the Boss and he MUST do what you say, He will love you for it. Its no different than breaking a Horse. Go a head and baby him first if you want then when that don't work try what I said.
