New: How do you score?

Since the other question worked so well in getting everyone to talking, I thought I'd post another.

Four dog cast:

Dogs A, B, and C get struck and treed in that order. They score the tree they lead their dogs off to hear for dog D (who has not yet been struck). They stop to listen and dog D opens and is struck by his handler before dogs are re-cast.

How many points does dog D get struck for?

score

we have a winner that is correct 25 is all he can get . he cant recieve 100 75 or 50 while other dogs are leashed not hasveing a chance to compete if they would have got turned looose before dog d was struck then he would have recieved 100

Posted by juross on 02-15-2013 03:03 PM:

that

that doestn make sence i said 100 because the old strike points are dead since the tree was scored and since the dog barked the other dogs could have turned loose

Dogs have to be loose and competing for 100 strike to be available.

Re: New: How do you score?

Its a little beside the point, but imo they shouldn't have stopped to listen for Dog D. There was no reason to since he was not struck in. Dogs either should have been recast or time called and the hour put on Dog D.

Of course, if the dogs HAD been recast before Dog D struck, then he'd strike in for 100, not 25. There could be some "strategic handling" involved in the decision to listen for a bit.

Your right, should have waited, on first bark they would have cut and on second bark strike D for 100, could have been a big gain or loss, or a big debate?? Smart thinking have to remember that one, this is another good post. Keep it up guys sure helps learn a few things appreciate it.

If I'm not mistaken, dogs must be struck first in order to recast, unless cast just decides to recast.

Not if no dog is struck on the card which is what we have here. Three dogs are leashed, the fourth is loose and not struck on the card. That is what John D was pointing out, you just cast the three dogs off the leash, there is no 8 running on dog D so there is no 8 to break.

Maybe instead of "they stop to listen" it should be worded "while walking away from the tree dog D is struck."

Either way, doesn't change the scenario. 3 dogs are on the leash, one dog gets struck, what position he go in for?

Understood, in this case cast is just deciding to recast (without a dog being struck). Agreed that 25 while dogs on leash, 100 after dogs are recast. I understand the slick part in which I was referring to in essence. Someone who is smart will not strike dog d on the first bark, but allow everyone to recast to d without him being struck and then strike dog d for 100 after everyone casts. It's not really slick, but some call it that.

This is the same thing that I had a post about a couple months back where everyone just decided to call timeout. They didn't listen for dog d or consider recasting.

Mine want go back to the same tree. So If I was judging in Ukc. Id walk 50 yards. Assuming I had plenty of woods left. Id cut em. If you hear your dog bark in that 50 yards. Good. If not Im cutting. Im not stopping and standing around or walking to the top of a hill to listen for something that's unstruck. To answer the question though. D is for 25.

Why in the world would you want to stand around with your dog on a leash while the clock is running?

I guess it's about time to reveal the answer to this question. This scenario came almost word-for-word out of the Advisor. The majority got the answer correct.

Until the dogs are re-cast they are still "holding" their strike position. Dog D must be struck in for 25.

As soon as the dogs are off the lead all positions open up if dog D has not been struck.
