I am just getting back into the sport. I have a 13 week old female, that appears to be struggling socially. She becomes very shy in a new environment. She does well in the woods, is tracking and treeing long drags. Trees very well and won't leave the tree. Trees well with little or no encouragment. She has adjusted well at home, knows her place in the pack. She does seem to be kind of a bully at times, in picking on one of my house dogs, but they have seemed to come to an understanding. She knows all of my family and will warm up to almost anyone if given the time to approach on her own terms. I have been proactive in the situation, by taking her to pet smart, having people over etc. She has shown signs of progress.

I have some time to decide, but I'm guessing, I should have her spade?

Should I begin to find a plan B, and forget about spending the time in training her to hunt, even though she appears to have all the tools.

I'm considering enrolling her in puppy classes. Your thoughts on this matter would be appreciated.

Put her in new environments and pet her up good to build her cinfidence.Take her for rides and put her where she has to deal with other people in a good way

Ya I am doing that, but probably could be doing it more.

I'd be cautious to breed her because she will likely pass that shy trait to a few of her pups! it might not stop them from being nice dogs its just a trait you really don't want in your blood because its like blood that throws slick treers you can cover it up but it will always be there

Ya that's what I'm thinking.

Shes 13 weeks old which is one of the key fear periods in dogs. just keep socializing her and working on it. Still to young to know what her grown traits will be.

as long as her owner can handle her what difference does it make.... i dont want my dogs where just anyone can do what they want with them.... i also know of a world champion thats really funny acting until it gets to know you

expose her to alot of kids usally fix it

13 weeks

She's only 13 weeks old and I am guessing you have had her for less than 2 months so she is still adjusting to her environment. Every day and every encounter brings a new adventure to her. Give her more time to adjust and grow, if you still have this problem in a few months then reconsider.

Ok thanks for the advice, sounds like I just need to continue to be proactive at this point. She has shown signs of progress, so I guess I might just be getting a little impatient.

If you have kids or anybody in your family that has kids. Something about children, they can get a puppy out of shyness. Always worked for me as long they aren't rough.
