maple taps
anybody got pictures of homemade maple taps? is just the back of the tap the only hole n them. thanks trent tharp
We use 3/8" black plastic pipe splices. And we dont drive it all the way to the back of the hole. I'll try to find a picture and get on here.

tap
thanks justin i used 7/16 stainless tubing.y u not run it all theway back? im new 2 this i seen a couple amish doing it so i thought id try it
It might not have any effect on the way it runs, but we leave a little in the back so you get more running out of the tap. I can't say I have any scientific proof of it working better one way or the other but thats just the way we do it.

Another piece of advice, when you cook it down,(if you're using an open fire to cook it down) put your finished product in a larger container and let it settle out. If you cook on an open fire you get some "goo" in the bottom. Doesn't bother it any, just looks better when it doesn't have a bunch of stuff settled in the bottom.
And you need a bunch of sap. About 40-50 gallons of sap will make a gallon of syrup.

i went out this morn an dumped what i collected i had three gallon.I just hope i dont cook it to long trial an error i guess.dang unz b busy getn ready.the ol boy i was watchn do it thet had a 150 bags out.how many days will it stay good b 4 i have2 cook it? they said 2 days or it would spoil.
The sooner you boil it the better. THe longer you wait the darker and stronger it will taste. If you keep it cold and in clean containers, you can keep it up to a couple weeks. I wouldn't keep it more than a week myself though.
