walker bluetick cross
Anyone made this cross and if so what can you tell me about it? I just did it and am excited to see how they turn out
I got 2 pups out of my walker bitch from a buddies blue male, good lookin' kept these 2 females smart as a whip good mouths but haven't done worth a hoot on treein' or trackin',hope yours do better than mine, gonna be 2years old this month,1 of 'em did open on a track this winter but never finished it,both will track a squirrel hide or coon hide if I drag it but don't show much interest on tree, maybe real slow learners.
I bread my bitch from cowee creek clint to my brothers male from diamond jim line. Both excellent hounds but hoping they would have the track power of his blu and tree power of the walker. crossing my fingers
This was an accidental breedin',bitch was in heat that night but was not bleedin' or swelled up but got it anyway, got good breedin' on both sides, will give 'em a little while longer but ain't waitin' till this time next year, their runnin' out of time.
It could be very good, never know tell you start training the pups. About 20 yrs. ago I had a half bluetick & half walker male that looked like a darker redtick english. He was just a very good balanced dog w/ big bawl on track & about an 80 bark a minute on the wood. Deadly accurate and killedalot of coon w/ the old dog, he came from the Ozark, Akr. area & some of those hunters done there just bred the best to the best at that time. Had another Engish dog right after him from the same guy that was ukc reg. English redtick that was out of some pr. dogs down there & on the 3rd generation was the famous bluetick; Smokey River Blue Diamond Jim. Disty had the loudest horned bawl mouth that I ever heard on a dog both track & tree, lillte shorter bawl on the wood, thou. Track driving machine. little trashy at first but got him corrected pretty quick. Killed many coon w/ Dusty, sure wish I could find another like him, today!! That Cowee creek Clint female is some best Walker blood that I've hunted with, lately. I just sold a female out of Clint & Jamison's Fly to my coonhunting partner for over 40 yrs., Larry had to sell his 2 best milk cows to buy her but she's as a well balanced dog as you could ask for an deadly, deadly accirate. Sorry for the book, but just telling you this cross might surprize, You!! Charlie Radtke
Thanks for the reply! That's the kind of answer i was hoping for. Will be an interesting project at least
