Toenail ripped off
Went to feed today and noticed blood on parts of my 3 yr old male's pen. After lookin around for the culprit, I found that he had torn his toe nail off. It was barely bleeding, but looked like he tore it completely off. I tried to feel for a nail but he was havin none of it. Just wonderin if i should put somethin on it (peroxide etc.)
Any help is appreciated.

toenail
i would soak it in ephsom salt and put blue kote on his foot i use it on horses and my dogs if they get cut
whatever you do, don't mess with it none. let it heal on its own.
peroxide won't hurt, 1/2 or baby aspirin for pain after eating.
may sound a little crazy but doctor it with preparation h, it helps with pain and swelling. neosporin will help also.
just don't try to trim or anything, again let it heal if it will.
quote:that sounds good to but the epsom salts will take the pain and swelling out also i sure aint ever heard of prepartion h used on anything like this lol guess your never to old to learn something new

i would put him on a antibiotic til it heals, cuts on the feet are bound to get infected a little.

something for pain, if he can lick it it will be fine
Thanks for all the advice guys. Good to know a man has fellow hunters that are willin to take time out of life to help out.
dont use full strength peroxide. it will kill good cells too. if you use it, mix it half/half with saline. can get some betadine in squirt bottle and put some of that on as well. do these things BEFORE putting any meds, ointments, etc on it.

I have a dog that absolutely will not let you cut her nails so she rips em off regularly,I still hunt her she will hold her foot up at times but don't seem to affect her,I put blue coat on it,I don't get to worried about infection on the foot as they can clean it them selfs pretty easy
