He will get deeper quicker. Astro is looking for a "treeable" coon, either one that is laid up or one that he can slam dunk........Tim

not sure exactly what you wanting, do you want them do that at the expence of runnin past a few coon (surely not)? most bluetick folks work on keepin certain traits (mouth, nose, accuracy, tracking) that usually makes them a balanced hound. I love one to get by thereselves but not at the expence of missing or passing up coon. I think I may have to start my own thread

I agree that alot of breeders are doing just what you said. But I think they are being line/kennel blind and as a whole falling behind.

We are considering breeding to a crossbred dog because he cant find something comparable in a blue hide.

Ok maybe I miss communicated.

I want a dog that hunts on the run, can tree a coon 10 feet away or 2 miles and not take all night to do it. I dont have much use for 45 min trailing around. I owned a walker/running dog cross bitch that trees coons fast, made 3 trees in 30a min in a hunt, by herself on all 3 and all were within 200 yards. Then punched a hole in the dark and was over a mile with anothe, after the hr was up. $kc hunt. Other dogss treed 2 together. You could watch the garmin and she would hunt about 100 yards in 10-15 seconds. She has split 10 feet away and a mile the other direction.

I want a dog that is fast accurate independent and has no quit in them.

Edit* That crossbred bitch just sold ffor $4500. Not SS Not performance .... all coondog.

ITS A FACT

I lost a couple nice hounds lil over a year ago! What your describing is what I have to have. They do exist and they are out there. You can make that perfect cross and raise a litter that all of em make above average/great coondogs and they'll all be a little different in the way they go about their buisness. Sure you know that, just part of the game. I take about everything on these boards with a grain of salt as everyone has this type or knows that old so-n-so is producing it............Im looking myself so good luck to you.

Thanks Tom.

It kills me that people get excited about getting one qualified for ukc world zones, big deal. Most never go to zones, its easier to say you couldnt go, then to say you got beat.

Ive talked with about 4 people who are truely looking to produce TOP hounds, that can compete at the highest levels.

Most wont look outside their yard.

Ok lets say this. If Mojo was blue there are alot of guys who wouldnt breed to him. Same goes for his son Mason who has been running pro hunts and dominating. He isnt that lucky he is a TOP dog.

Lets look outside the box.

Is this thread really about finding a top blue dog or is it about promoting cross breeding, if it is about a top blue, go to Paul Vaughns and hunt with the Astro dog he is as you described, as far as cross breeding is concerned, we don,t need any of that to keep up, we have what it takes, we just need to put more of the right stuff together consistently.....Gerald

Well its more about winning big weekly. Being able to produce TOP hounds consistently. Looking outside your own yard. Being honest with ones self about ones dogs.

Tell you the truth, i see everyone bragging on mad dogs, and ive only been with one and wasnt impressed. But you guys sure talk him up. JMO

speak for them selves

I think everyone brags a little on their hounds when they are proud of them, kinda comes with the territory, Best thing to do is go to the vaughn,s and hunt with some and see for your self, talk is cheap and it comes a dime a dozen, by the way which Mad Dog hound did you hunt with........Gerald
