l"O'S" POSITION ON "MENTALLY ILL"???
I see this one coming. This is a one-two sucker punch let loose in the name of civil society and treatment of poor mentally ill people. The government lets us Second Amendment people keep guns, but only if we are not mentally ill – and it is the government which will define “mentally ill.”
Recently, the issue of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, in returning Vets has been mentioned in the context of gun permits. Of course the government makes a great show of concern for our returning injured vets, making sure that mental health facilities are expanded to insure timely care. And of course, unless the vet has a solid diagnosis of PTSD or some other mental diagnosis, he or she will not be eligible for care. But once given the diagnosis, the veteran is at risk of losing constitutionally guaranteed rights under the rubric of making gun ownership conditional on “mental health.”
Brandon Raub, USMC veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, made quite colorful anti-war and anti-administration remarks in a Facebook page. He was subsequently drug away in handcuffs by local authorities purportedly at the request of mental health workers.
Col. Thierry Dupuis, county police chief, acted under the state’s emergency custody statute which allows a magistrate to order civil detention and psych evaluation of anyone considered potentially dangerous – i.e., he was hauled off and jailed for a “pre-crime.” He hadn’t hurt anyone. He hadn’t done anything overt except express his beliefs on paper. And anyone with a three-inch kitchen knife is “potentially dangerous.”
IF YOU BELIEVE THE GOVERNMENT CAN TAKE CARE OF YOU; WHY NOT ASK A NATIVE AMERICAN WHAT THEY THINK!!

"Defining" the mentally ill is a mess. Soldiers with PTSD. A woman who has depression but takes her medications every day and is a regular non-threatening member of society. Alcoholism is recorded as a mental disorder--how much do YOU drink and the GOVERNMENT gets to decide 'how many drinks per day' makes a person an alcoholic! Someone who, as a teenager, had some sort of emotional crisis where they were in a mental health ward for a couple weeks but are now perfectly normal, sane people?
Haha, even certain heterosexual acts are labeled as part of a mental illness. I'd love it, at the gun counter: Sir, I sure can sell you this gun, but first--do you engage in _____ in bed?
Grab yourself a DSM; we all have some sort of mental illness.
EXACTLY MT. THE LAST PERSON I'D WANT MAKING A DECISION ON ME WOULD BE ANY OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION!!! JUST ANOTHER TRICK WHERE HE GETS YOU TO LOWER YOUR GUARD, THEN SLIP IT TO YOU. THE MAN HAS NO INTEGRITY WHAT-SO-EVER!!! I JUST SENT MESSAGES TO MY REPRESENTATIVES ABOUT THIS ASSUALT ON THE SECOND AMENDMANT!!!!
BTT
I wonder if you are not able to meet the mental reqirements set by the gov to have a gun could that be a stepping stone to apply for a mental disability?

YOU'D THINK IF IT ONE WAY, IT OUGHT TO GO THE OTHER, WOULDN'T YOU???
I would be almost positive that if you told them you were a coon hunter you could qualify for mental disability. LOL! At least everyone I tell I'm a coon hunter says "you got to be crazy."

I worked as an HST (nurses helper ) in a Mental health hospital for about 3 years. Have any of you ever worked in one of those places ? My job was to keep an eye on folks and make sure no one got in a fight and no one hurt or killed themselves and also to report to the doctors and nurses how the people were doing. I saw doctors release people that they said were "clearing up" that were in no way at all getting any better. They were still stareing at the walls all day and having conversations with Bob or sue, or whever and no one was there. Just staring at the walls and having long conversations at the walls and windows. It was extremely sad, but also extremely scarey to see the doctors release those people as if something had changed. I was there with them for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. What do yall think ?
MY PROBLEM WITH THE MENTAL ILLNESS IS, IN MY OPINION, IS JUST ANOTHER TOOL TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM OWNING GUNS!! MANY,MANY GI'S SUFFER FROM PTSD. THEIR JUST LOOKING FOR REASONS TO EXCLUDE PEOPLE!!
