ALERT ACTION NEEDED TODAY!
Hunting with dogs is under attack by the SPCA and the HSUS. SB 1280 passed
the Senate Agriculture Committee yesterday by a vote of 8-7! If you don’t
believe that this is your fight check out this website:

􀂳Hound hunters use packs of dogs, sometimes 40 or more, to chase bears, bobcats, cougars, deer, or other animals until
they try to climb a tree, or until the dogs catch them and tear them apart. The hunting dogs themselves are frequently
injured or killed during the hunt. Hunters usually fit the dogs' collars with GPS or radio telemetry devices so that they don't
even have to keep up with the chase젏they can relax while the dogs do the work. With dogs after them, bears and
cougars may not meekly scamper up a tree, but may fight back. A single swipe from a bear can wound or kill a dog.􀂴 And
on it goes…
If you don’t fight back on behalf of the fox preserves now, you will be pleading for help when they come
after you!!!
We need thousands of you, your friends and family to act now! We only have until Monday morning to
kill SB1280 in the Virginia Senate. Get everyone you know to make the following calls and send emails
(email list at the end). You can Call day or night and leave a message on their voice
mail!!
1. Call Governor McDonnell’s office at (804) 786-2211 and ask the Governor to oppose this bill and to
order DGIF staff to provide the Senate members their draft recommendations on improving the Fox
Preserves by Monday morning at noon!
2. Call your Senator (click here to find their name and phone number

Committee.

www.vadha.org. Anyone in Va needs to join and support this hunting dog alliance. We enjoy our deer and coon dogs and people like this are trying to stop our heritage!!! Any donation helps fight our rights to hunt with our hounds and VAHDA is our only hope in Va!! They're trying to stop the "right to retrieve".

VA was the 1st to need to succeed from the US of A for some reasons we' dont know or will ever read about in the history books stuff like this...

I know what WILL HAPPEN the day the MEN they send to my place to TRY and take a coonhound or gun from me!

Thankx for posting Cynthia, I wasn't aware of it, but will be spreading the word as much as I can.

Things are getting so out of control all over the country and common sense is thrown out the window and its all about control and a money racket. I found out this past week a man can't even swim in the river here in VA unless he or she has a fishing licence, if no licence, well 100 dollar ticket, or at least that is what was told to me by county officials, I haven't looked it up or into it and maybe it is that way everywere and I need to get out of the house a little more.

Guys u better get up and fight em these hsus aspca freaks will NOT!! go away..they will keep on till they get what they want....and they want ur hounds for good....trust me guys I been dealin with em for years...they will lie...they will manipulate.....they are very very powerful... so unless u dont care at all about ur rights u better start callin ur state reps as soon and as often as u can cause numbers of opposin voices does help...

all called and message passed on to fellow hunters! People this is for real the have already made it a felony here in virginia to fight game chickens and i had to give them up! I do not want to loose my hounds too!

dont feel bad bud,,they after us in misdemeanor states as well,, they dont think they can stop hounds or that coonhunters are stronger force than cockers,,, i have numbers of active breeders and cockers in america and its a far more than cooners trust me they will get ur hounds if they want,,,and they do!!!!!

Remember we oppose the substitute (Amendment) that Sen. Richard Stuart introduced on Thursday.
Fox Enclosure Talking Points
SB 1280
As Amended
The provision eliminating competition would make Fox Preserves financially impossible.
The smaller enclosures are generally not used for active competition, but are used for
training and conditioning for events in the larger preserves.
The proceeds from field trials are almost always donated to charity. Tens of thousands
of dollars are raised for charity every year. The American Cancer Society, the Patrick
Henry Boys Home, and countless needy individuals in local communities will suffer if this
bill passes.
Limiting the number of dogs to 20 is too few to attract competitors to sanctioned
championship. This decision should be left to DGIF rather than micro-manage by
legislators with limited factual information.
This bill should be referred to the Agriculture Committee until the full slates of the
scheduled DGIF public hearings are held across the state this spring. Decisions on the
number of dogs and eliminating competitive events should be delayed until the
consequences are thoroughly debated at the already scheduled eight DGIF statewide
public hearings later this Spring. That’s what the legislature originally charged DGIF with
accomplishing. Let them do it!

SB 1280
The vote in the House of Delegates will take place Tuesday, February 12th at 7:30AM before the Natural Resources sub-committee of House Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee. The sub-committee is chaired by Delegate R. Lee Ware of Powhatan. It is currently believed the meeting will be in House Room 3 in the Capital to accommodate a larger crowd. If the meeting place changes we will advise you. As always, please wear blaze orange!
Action: Attend the meeting if you can. We would like for you to contact by phone and email Delegate Tony Wilt (R-Harrisonburg). Delegate Wilt is a hunter but is unfamiliar with fox preserves. Please ask our friend Delegate Wilt to oppose SB 1280 and tell him why you support the fox preserves. Please remind him that DGIF has extensive public hearings scheduled that will address any issues that need attention.

A number of you have expressed concerns about HB1829 “our GPS bill”. This bill is in response to some outside fox hunters who had issues with DGIF’s interpretation of the definition of “managing the hunt.” This bill simply includes the use of electronic tracking and GPS collars as an acceptable method of “managing” their dogs while hunting ANY game animal, not only fox. It does not require the use of electronic or for that matter any collars. We will provide you more information at a later date.

Legislative Alert February 12, 2013
SB 1280 – Was defeated in sub-committee today. The vote ends the Legislative threat for this year. Thank all of you who helped in this effort. There was a great turn out. Once again there was not adequate room for all of our folks. About 50 of our folks were seated while another hundred or more had to remain outside during the hearing. As frustrating as it was for them, the sub-committee allowed them to file through the room, this re-enforced your support and determination to defend what was right!
The fight now moves to DGIF as they seek to issue regulations. The first meeting of that effort will be on March 20th at 1:00 PM. It is currently scheduled for the DGIF board room on West Broad St. The staff will present their recommendations to the Board in a special, separate meeting that will just deal with fox preserves. We will advise you of any changes.
There will be 8 additional public hearings around the state beginning shortly after March 20th and end in mid-April. As always we will keep you informed.
On March 21st at 8:30 AM the DGIF will hear staff recommendations for regulations setting the hunting seasons, and new license options authorized by the legislature this year. There will also be a series of hearing on these regulations. Note the recently completed Bear Management Plan may have a significant impact on the regulations for that species.

HB1829 - the GPS bill is a pro-hunting bill requested by the Virginia Hunting Dog Alliance. It will NOT BE used as a vehicle to pass a fox pen bill!

The sections of the CODE of VIRGINIA are significantly different and therefore any amendment that tries to put either fox pens or Sunday hunting on this bill will not be germane.

Call your Senator and ask them to pass this bill, without amendment.
