Silent hounds ?

Who has them or better yet what lines are consistently throwing silent dogs ?

my barney hound was silent but wouldnt till he got two or lil older his sire and grand sire was same way.

I KNOW ONE THAT GOES BACK TO NAILOR ABOUT SIX TIMES IN PEDIGREE. LOUD AND TREED.

There are lots of silent Grand Nite Champions. Some strains are known for silent dogs. I don't want to point a finger but if you investigate a little, you can find some silent hound strains.

So far, I've hunted with 4 different hounds out of insane Cain that were pretty much 90percent silent on the ground, all out of different females. But I also have hunted with a high x pup that throws plenty on the ground. From what I'm hearing most x and Cain pups are silent on ground. Not my cup of tea but obviously a lot of people love it, other wise the woods wouldn't be full of em like it is. Hope I didn't just open a can of worms to the thousands of high x and Cain fans out there.

My hooker female is 80% silent never have been a fan of it but im starting to lol That much quicker and that much smarter! Never happened till she started catching coon on the ground.

I have a Cain female and she was tightmouthed on the ground but her mouth has started to loosen up with age. On a hot track she will open 2-3 times and then slam the tree. On other tracks she shows quite a bit of mouth just depends really but for the most part shes a little tighter. She is a dominant first tree dog though and shes a real classy tree dog too. in a cast she will average 2nd-3rd strike

also a full littermate brother to her is actually pretty mouthy on the ground and opens quick. Shows alot of mouth on whatever track he is on so Cain will throw some open mouth dogs too

Very undesireable trait this kennel

Given a choice between a YAPPITYYAPYAP mouthy dog and a silent one that gets the job done, i will take the silent dog every time. Just like in people,mouthy usually=stupid. If theyr barkin they arent thinkin. Seems the last few years i have drawn alot of pretty silent english dogs that impressed me.

not trying to be a smart a#@ but why would a coon hunter want a silent hound unless you are hide hunting ?

the sport of coon hunting has changed so much over the yrars. use to be people wanted to hear a good chase with a hound that sounded like a hound & a good treedog but the chase was as big a part of the hunt as making a tree. most people any more its just tree tree tree.

to me a hound with a big deep bawl on track, a big pretty long bawl locate & a stead chop or short bawl mouth on tree is coon hunting. (with a big deep hound mouth)

any more half the cast you draw sound like a bunch of cyotes.

opening on track has nothing to do with being able to think just like it has nothing to do with speed... if it does in a particular dog there isnt much to them anyway.... if that were the case the silent dog would win every time and in most cases i have witnessed they very rarely win... also does not in any way make them more accurate.... they use these excuses trying to justify hunting a hound thats bred to hunt like a cur.... these same people are doing to the hounds what obama is doing to our nation... taking them apart a little at the time... when you look at the definition of a hound silent tracker is not listed

show me where ur readin definition sure as heck dont say any thing bout soon as u un snap the lead they yapyty yap either lets just say this i i take my 85percent silent dog here u bring yappy and we go hunt every time dog trees and dont have coon on the outside it mine i pay u fifty it urs vice versa and a den we cant see coon considered slick it fifty

I have an old English female ill take 3rd and first every time. You can't beat 3rd and 1st. I use to hate it when I got her now you couldn't pay enough money to get her from my house. I have 2 pups out of her at my house and can't wait to get them going. Praying one is silent.

I hunt curs and don't hunt hounds, but i wouldn't mind having a silent hound if it was dead silent on track to put in my curs, hounds have a better nose, so it would be beneficial to have it etc...

silent dogs

If you want to hunt a silent dog hunt a cur to many let slide UKC need to inforce their rule and clean up this trait anything for a buck

Hard to understand anyone complaining about competing against a silent dog, they certainly dont steal any undeserved points like the babblers, they give you a 50 or 75 point handicap on every coon and they make it easier to hear your dog.
If at the end of the night that tight mouthed dog has more points on the card it might be time to take a look at whats on your lead.

based on what all the veterans i talk to, a high percentage of the winners were fall in there treed type and hardly ever opened on track . even heard one of them that won world was pretty silent. as far as one being 100% stone silent . sorry never seen a hound thats always silent, always will see them open on a track once in a blue moon
