If I owned him he'd be euthanized (politically correct for shot) not bred to.
If he belonged to someone else ABSOLUTELY NOT!

A dog that is ill does not need to be bred. Period. Dogs that are rough at the tree, regardless of how strong other traits are, do not need to be bred, sold, or even given to someone else. So you know what option that leaves.....I love the sport of coon hunting more than anything and enjoy it thoroughlly, but it would be alot better if people would take responsibility and not breed/sale/trade rough, aggressive dogs.

truthfully people are doing it so you have every right to if you like the dog his pups might not even come out ruff at first until they get some age on them and start getting old ive seen a few dogs that old age was when they got mean and i believe they just like enybody who gets old dont want to be fooled with there is a big diff. between a rough dog and a true gator.

NEVER!!!!!!!!! Why would anyone, only if you are selfish or stupid would keep these traits going. He should at least be neutered, put to sleep would be better.

I hate a mean dog, but having said that i will say that i have known dogs that were good natured until they were in a couple hundred hunts and then started breeding 3 or 4 females a week that got grouchy. So i guess it depends on the dog and what he throws.

if the dog is rough because of the breeding i wouldnt breed nothing to it, a mean dog to me is just like a babbler,or a slick tree artist,i have no use for them.

Heck yea I would! Unless you have a better option but it sounds like you don't! People do it ALL the time. I done it and not regretted it. 3 of the best coon Treeing dogs I've ever had I my 30 years of coon hunting were mean as the devil himself. In fact all three of them would eat up people too... One of those three wanted to bite people unprovoked. Just remember, you Can't hunt a mean dog with others because that's wrong but if you just hunt by yourself... What difference does it make? Most of the people on this board either have had or do have a rough dog. Some can deal with it and others can't. Which one are you?

There are lots of dogs hunted in hunts and bred to bitches all their lives that did not get mean. If they get mean, they have to have it in them to be mean. All the hunts and breeding did was bring it out of them. JMO

I agree with alot of the statements posted, but the original post was talking about rough and would fight at the tree. The ones I have seen that would fight at the tree just had it in them. The only rough stud dogs I have seen were like that before the breeding and hunts came along. JMO
We had one when I was younger that was a little ruff at times he was demoted to house pet real quick never hunted little cousin was fond of him nice as a pet mean as the devil in the woods

I hunted with a dog yrs ago that later won a world hunt . He was hunted at our local club on his way to the top and was the ruin of a few nice young hounds around our area . I remember how if he showed up to a hunt everyone would just scratch they're hound and go home . One night after everyone else had withdrew and he was the only dog left in the cast with almost the complete time remaining I witnessed this dog not make a single bark the entire time . To this day I still do not believe this hound could tree a coon on his own . Oh yes we made every effort and a top priority to try and catch him stealing a tree but with no luck . I will sometimes see this hound in a few dogs being sold and always think if they only knew . Yes some people have done it , but today i think things are so much better and hopefully this is no longer tollerated . Good subject
I like where thus post is going

quote:Just curious, these dogs you see out of him... Are they alligators too? I've seen it both ways! Remember, that stud dog didn't produce those pups by himself!!! I would go so far and say that a mean female usually will produce mean dogs but a stud... Well, I've seen about half the time!

Just a little rough and mean are two completly different traits , rough means face barks jacks the tree a little etc, mean on the other hand is a dog that will fight a dog at the tree in the box or in the woods that kind needs to be shot , the other kind represents about 90% of whats out there.
