I like it as long as you really like both parents and the both have the characteristics that you are looking for in a hound.

even if both parents have what your looken for your liable to pull something up that is bad as you can get from enydog 5 gen on up but with risk comes rewards and sometimes 22 bullets. haha

Some of the best I've owned were 1/2 brother 1/2 sister crosses.I have a litter now that is half brother sister 2nd time cross and the first litter is doing great.

Have seen it go both ways. Only way to find out is to try it. Got 3 6 months old that are looking good so far.

I tell ya, some of the best dogs ive seen came from half b,s crosses. But you gotta remember your doubling up on genes so you better love both dogs.
Had a gyp once that I bred to a distant relative and got good pups. Then I bred her to a male that was line bred like her and got some really good dogs from that cross. Then I took the best male from that cross and bred her to him. Got natural pups with one outstanding male. I also bred this same gyp to her 1/2 brother and got a male that a friend of ours hunted that was a natural coon tree'r. Breeding that close will tell you a lot quicker what traits might show up on down the road if you didn't inbreed. JMO. I'd suggest you study the ancestors and their littermates of the brother and sister that are bred. Find out as much as possible about them and then make your decision whether you think a pup out of the brother/sister cross will work out.

Half siblings is not that close and not uncommon. Thats how breeds and lines within breeds are created.

1/2 brother n sister cross
Been thinking of making this breeding in a couple years, trying to rebuild on some old blood about all gone, I to thought a little close and always thought more of uncle niece or Aunt to nephew would be close enough, but bred to a female 1 1/2 yr's ago and she was from a 1/2 brother sister cross and a nice hound and pups are doing good. Like someone said may enhance on good but bad also??

Ive been thinking about doing the exact same cross because my old blood is getting watered down and have heard some very good things about half brother/half sister crosses.

ive even made a full brother sister cross before.
as Kelly Stagner once told me........inbreeding cant add whats not there, and outbreeding cant uncover whats hiddin.
I had a female one time that was a full brother full sister an had ukc papers on her she had a weird heat cycle never got to breed her.

quote:I had that same problem with one too! She was the only female out of a litter of 13. She wound up being bigger and much more aggressive than any of the males in the litter.

If you know your line, breeding half brother to half sister only results in about a 10-15% inbreeding coefficient unless the two are all ready tight line bred. Then the inbreeding coefficient should be 15-20%.
In most cases, under 20% inbreeding coefficient is considered safe.
I have had good success with this cross, and I know of others who also have had good sucess.

her papers are not stamped inbreed but linebreeding is inbreeding just people look down on it when its a brother sister cross thats why their pups papers will be stamped inbred but a father daughter cross is still looked at as linebreeding i geuss

I think you would be surprised if you knew how much of this kind of breeding was done out behind the woodshed before dna came into effect and breeders could move the papers around. It was done alot more than we think and that is where alot of dominate stud dogs came from. Alot considered it taboo, so breeders kept it quite.
