How early to start a pup?
I have a 7month old walker pup right now. I have taken her out almost every time I have been hunting which on average is once a week. (can't get out a lot with high school and basketball). But I was wondering is this to much? When I turn her loose she takes off and hunts and doesn't come back for 10-15minutes and she is only 7 months old. Also she is already opening up on track along with treeing with my other hound. She hasn't yet treed a coon by herself yet but has came really close!!! Just Curious if she is way to young for what a lot of you guys prefer?
Thanks Lane
Keep doing what you are doing. You got it right.

she will learn more out in the woods than at home about hunting

keep doig what you can, catch a coon and turn it loose let her try that, and when she is running it stay close so when she rares a tree or starts to tree you can handle her, doing it in the daytime works better, easier to see whats going on, last but not least be dont get aggrevated she is only a pup!

There has been a couple of times that after I skin the coon out or even the coon its self I will leash her up and then run a trail with the coon for like 75yds or more and she will take off on the trail and opens up and finds the coon. But I just didn't know if she would get burned out or not? Or how that happens? I have turned loose coons out of cages for her and she ends up finding them so she is improving by leaps and bounds
Thanks Lane
Just don't over do it with drags and released coon. I would take her alone some so she doesn't get too dependent on another dog. JMO.
Okay thanks and I have been debating on taking her by herself but heck when i turn her loose she wonders around for a little while and then takes off and the other night she opened up first and was treeing on a tree.. Just no coon. A little more help and work and I think she will be treeing in the next month or so!!
Thanks Lane
