Need people's opinion on this.

I have a 1998 jeep Cherokee sport 4 door 2 wd needs air condition work. A guy wants to trade me a 1989 Chevy s-10 4x4 rebuilt motor has over 200,000 on rest of the truck my jeep has 175,000 on it. Jeep is a 4.0L v6 and the truck is a 2.8 4 cylinder.

Unless that 2.8l is a vortec keep the jeep. I have a chevy colorado with the vortec and it is bulletproof, but I had that old 2.8l in my first s-10 and it was junk

The 2.8 was not one of gm's better motors. Intake gasket issue's and heads were very easy to crack if engine is run hot.

First of all the 2.8l is not a 4 cylinder,its a small v-6 and yes they are junk.The 4.3 v-6 is a great motor though.Ive owned both.

are jeep parts actually ford parts? i think so. if so, that 4l motor is great. i have one in a 90 ford ranger that is strong. i've also got a 90 ranger with the 2.9 l. it sucks.

A jeep 4.0 and the ford 4.0 are not the same and yes the 2.8 chev is a v6.

The 4.0 jeep motor is an inline 6 or some people say straight six and the Ford 4.0 is a v-6

FORD MADE A INLINE 4.0 AND WERE USED IN SOME FORD TRUCKS, AND JEEPS, ALSO JEEP USED THE 2.8 ENGINE AT ONE TIME IN THE 80'S.

Ford never did make an 4.0 inline six in the USA in the 80,s.They had the 3.9l which might have been 240ci and they made the 300 straight which was a 4.9l.

I had 4 different vehicles with the 2.8. I would never own another. They where underpowered and junk.
