Has this ever happened to you?
We were hunting sat night and we cut all the dogs loose and they found a diller and ran it in a hole. My dog kept hunting but once the dogs pulled the diller out and started fighting it my dog came to it. I shocked her and she stopped or a second but went right back in after it. I shocked her again till she stopped. I walked her about 100 yards and cut her loose again. She struck and in less than five min she was treed. But she was not treeing hard like she normally does so I figured it was a slick tree. I told everyone to just stay and I would go check and if she had anything I would holler back and they could come. I started walking to her and the closer I got to her I could see a light at the top of the tree line. We were hunting in a bottom and as far as I knew there were no hills so I could figure why there was a light that high in the air. The closer I got the more my stomach hurt, when I got to the tree she was about 20 ft from the ground after I got to he I started calling her hoping she would come down it made her climb higher . Buy the time the rest of my friends got to the tree she had climbed out as far and as high as she could go. I don't know how high she was but it was at least as high as a telephone pole. The tree was on the edge of water and had fallen just enough she could climb it. The tree was about two foot in diameter at the bottom and she was at the top of the tree it was still wide enough for her to stand on it. I was afraid if she fell it would kill her but I wasn't going up after her. I did finally get her down. How do you think I got her down? And if it has happened to you how did you get your dog down?

Re: mayb
quote:squalled her out. I didn't think about throwing something in the water , that would have worked better. I turned my shock collar on low turned her around. She almost fell but turned and started down but she got to a limb and got hung up so I just started squalling and slowly but surely she came sliding down.

Don't shine your light on them, they can't see. Got lucky enough here to snap a pic. Dog came right down when I called her. She was up about 30-40 feet over a creek Treeing on the tree this one was leaning into.

The same thing happened to me years ago in Indiana. I was hunting Bates Hardtime Kash II, he belonged to Ed Bates and myself. My cousin and myself were hunting we heard him tree, when we started to him it sounded like he moved, when we got closer we couldn't hardly tell what direction he was, we stopped and listened real good and started lookin up, there he was in a leaning tree with vines all over it. I called him down, finally, shot the coon out and felt real fortunate that I had an old hound that minded real good.
tree climbing dog
he was about 15ft I went up after him he's a really smart dog so he listend to me stayed put until I got to him I hung onto him and we climbed back down pretty nerve racking

I had a female climb a couple trees. One was leaning out over a small river so I climbed up, got her by the collar, and dropped her in the water. The 2nd tree she climbed, I stayed at the base of the tree with my light out and my buddy lead the other two dogs away from the tree. When he got about out of sight, she turned and came almost all the way down. Couldn't quite make it all the way down but I only had to climb a few feet up to get her. Not fun getting them out of trees, that's for sure.
