4 live coons

After checking traps this morning I was fortunate enough to catch 4 coons. I have an 8 month old pup that has only seen one love coon that I am training. What are some good ways to get him coon crazy with these coons??

try dragging the coon around while he is loose in the yard. If he shows interest in chasing it then try hanging it in the tree. Make sure you keep it moving. If its sitting still some pups get bored and start wandering around. If he shows no interest in chasing it just try again next month someday something will click

what ever you do don't bring the coon to the pups, let the pups find the coon. lay down a drag scent, useing slightly warm water poured over coon for scent, keep them short at first. let pup work scent till it finds coon. don't over do it with sight training, use coon for sight about 3 times at end of scent trail. after this turn about 2or3 loose in front of pup in open area that meets woods, wait till coon is around 10yards from woods before releasing pup.
if he has treed on these, start hunting him or her where you feel you can get after a coon quickly. if it trees coons on its own, you may want to take 1,2, o rmaybe first 3 out then reward it with a treat,mini oreo cookie,anything pup likes. you don't have to shoot every coon to make it a better dog. a pup can't run and tree a dead coon. be patient, and remember you're dealing with a pup, not a broke dog.

If you have a young pup the first thing you should do is find an older dog whether you have an older dog or a buddy. You want the pup to see what he is supposed to do and an older experienced hound will try and tear the cage apart to get the coon. Alot of times if the young dog see's this he will start baying running in and out. This will usually peak the interest as to what's in the cage. Praise him and pet him down good when he bays let him know he is doing right. Further on after a few caged coons work him on a coon out of the cage keep him leashed while the older hound fights the coon. while leashed let him go toward the fight but dont force him sometimes this will just scare your pup and knocks you backwards in your training process. After awhile he will start getting more involved. Couple this with letting him run with the hounds on your hunts and things should start falling into place he will know he is looking for ol ringtail. This is how I train my hounds and has worked for me. Everyone does it their own way and I am not saying im right or anyone else is wrong.

It seems to me when they get closer to that year old mark. That hides don't spark interest as much as a live coon.

Thanks for the great advise. I took one of the caged coons and drug it through an open field to a tree leaving a scent drag about 100 yards. After i got to the tree i threw a rope over a limb and hoisted the coon and cage about 7 foot off the ground. I then went and got my pup and my 4 year old female. I introduced them both to the trail and the 4 year old trailed straight to the tree and started treeing. The pup wasn't far behind but when he got to the tree he just circled instead of treed. I lowered the coon down and my female was raising hell on the coon. My pup then started to chime in. He really loved that cage swinging and the coon squalling. After I got him good and fired up we put both dogs on a lead and I lowered the cage then let the coon loose. It bolted and hit the woods. I gave him about 30 seconds of being outta sight then cut the dogs. It wasn't long and they both were on the trail. They ran the coon 1200 yards I could not believe it! They both treed hard and I shot it down to them. One happy hunter today. Here is a video of him and my female. He is the one with a loud mouth and wearing the blue collar.
