Christian Denominations and Beliefs

Let's try again. Please keep it civil. What denominatin are you? What are some outreach minitires that your church uses? We were discussing on the first thread whether it would be better to preach in a nondenominational church or from a denomination such as southern baptist.what are some thoughts?

i was raised in a methodist home and thats the way i belive i dont belive in the 7 day evangelist religon thier holy day is on a saturday where ours is on a sunday but thats thier belive i have a buddy that belongs to that religon and we just dont talk about our religous belives i told my dad i was going to get creamnated he said i would go to hell for having my body burned it was wrong to do that but i dont condone anybody in the way they belive i just dont belive like they do

Just heard about a church that a friend of mine is Pastor at, they are going to the laudromat passing out rolls of quarters to everyone coming in. Then praying with them and sharing the Gospel of Jesus.

We are talking about that very thing right now. We have 41 churches in our local SBC association. One of which is a megachurch for our area. (2400 on roll). Our missions director said that church is growing about 100 per year but all from other congregations. Not much outreach.

I totally agree. A few of us are crossing denomination lines and going to have a singing and preaching. going to try to target young adults but anyone will be welcome.

I think the same fellas that put the bible togeather wrote the UKC rulebook. Both are interpretated differently by everyone who reads them.

Denominations were set up by man. The Gospel was conceptualized by God, Finished by Jesus Christ, and spread through the work and actions of those who Loved God first and foremost. I think the whole denomination thing is one way Satan has used man to muddy up the waters. I am not saying denominations are terrible, just that there is division and divisive spirits. When we dumb down the gospel, or skip parts of the bible because they are unsavory or thought to be non-relevant to today's culture, are we doing what God wants? We are to teach the whole counsel of God's Word. We are sheep, we are to reproduce sheep. If it wasn't for some bold folks in the beginning, none of us would be called Christians. They didn't believe in the "us four and no more" philosophy. Sure there was some issues between the Jews and Gentiles for a bit there with the whole circumcision deal, but, God took care of that. Seems man is always looking for a way to make his club smaller. God is an all-inclusive Creator. He wants all men to come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Yet we continue to find ways to tinker with God's creation.

I think all of us need to take a good hard look at ourselves in the mirror. What can that guy looking back at us do to get out of God's way? How can I be better used? Am I broken? Is pride keeping me from doing what God would have me to do?

We should all read Galatians 6 and look hard at ourselves.

My wife Leslie was diagnosed today with Chiari malfunction 1. She has to see a neurologist. Be in prayer for us as we find out more. It is a disorder where the brain stem and the spinal cord are growing in the same place. (laymans terms) thanks.

HI MR STEVE , I WENT TO A CHURCH A WHILE BACK THAT HAD THAT ROCK AN ROLL TYPE MUSIC,I WENT WITH MY DAUGHTER AND GRAND DAUGHTER ,NOW THAT CHURCH WAS ROCKIN ,,THERE WERE OLDER PEOPLE THER TOO I WOULD SAY IN THER 70S OR OLDER AND A LOT OF THEM ..THEY WERE STANDIN JUST LIKE THE YOUNGER PEOPLE SINGIN THERE HEARTS OUT MOVIN LIKE THE WERE 20 YEARS OLD ,I COULDNT BELIEVE THEY EVEN KNEW THE WORDS TO SOME OF THE SONGS THAT WERE SUNG I WAS AT A LOSS ,I COULDNT OF SUNG NONE OF THEM IF THE WORDS HADNT BEEN UP ON A BIG SCREEN MOST OF THE CONGREGATION WAS THE YOUNGER GENERATION,AS I LOOKED AT THE WORDS OF SOME OF THE SONGS ,THEY WERE NO DOUBT AWSOME SONGS THE LYRICKS WERE NOTHIN BUT ABOUT PRAZING GOD HIS LOVE FOR US AND LIVING FOR HIM AND I HEARD AN AWSOME SERMON BY THE PREACHER TOO. Music

I love the old hymns and quartet music. I am 36 years old and most people my age like the new music. I prefer the old stuff but our churches are so traditional that we are missing the younger generation. We have to allow something different and as long as the gospel isn't compromised then I think it's ok.After all our hymns and southern gospel music isn't the same music that was sung 2000 years ago. Statistics say When a person visits your church they decide in the first 10 minutes whether they will come back or not. So love and welcome them when they do come in.

i went to an ordination service the other nt. and they used the prayse and worship music i wasnt sure how to take it didn't really care for it myself and i noticed others didn't eather from there actions,but some did so i guess what ever gets ur attention in a service .can't see our preacher using it.

with the wife to see a older fellow that she help take care of thier catholic she called this other lady sister stella anyways she said she had come to pray for him anyways she went through her prayer and used about the same words as the methodist use the only thing differnt was the hand thing they do after she did a long prayer for him she took this gold thing out of a black pouch i thought it was a pocket watch lol she open it up and took out a real thin looking cracker and broke off a small pice put it in his mouth told him to chew it up and swallow it and did another short prayer then she gather her stuff up and left i was going to ask her what that was she gave him to eat but figure i better leave well enough alone before the wife slap me lol

Good line

Sometimes it is hard to be brave. But we are told to do so. It is time for a spiritual awakening and revival in our nation. We are so caught up in tradition in our churches that God is not even allowed time to move. We are scheduled 3 hymns offeratory hymn, message, altar call and dismissal prayer. What if the Holy Spirit leads our music director to sing seven songs or the preacher to preach until 1230 or we just have prayer for an hour? It's time to pray for the Holy Spirirt to guide our services and make a movement on our people. It's time for us to see souls saved and lives changed. Our churches should be hungry to see The Spirit move in our services. What a change could be wrought in our city, state, and nation if we ask for it and allow it.

About me

Brother Ron sent me a pm. He asked for my name. My name is Dean Bearden. I have been married to my wife Leslie for 17 years. I have a daughter, Samantha, that is 16 and a son Joshua that is 11. I am 36 years old. I am a sinner saved by the grace of God. I have been blessed that both of my children have been saved and know Jesus as their savior. God started calling me to preach in 2003. I have ran for years. I was scared of what my wife family and friends would think. I quit going to church for about 4 years and lived in the world. We had marital troubles and my career fell apart. It seemed my life was in shambles. Leslie told me to leave and not come back. Our children seen me act out with verbal abuse to their mother. I didnt respect anyone or myself. Finally when she told me to get out I submitted to Gods call and asked him to please let me go home. He did. It took 4 more years but in February of 2012 I finally walked the isle and made my call to ministry public. Since then he has put me to work. He restored my secular career and most important my family. God is so good to me. He is to you too. If you do not know Jesus as your savior, accept him today. Please share your testimony on here. at one time in my life i didnt believe in god and bad as i hate to tell this i use to cuss him.i grew up in church and at 10 years old god spoke to me and knew i needed to be saved,but i wouldnt give in to his will.i aint kidding about this but sometimes during alter call i would grab on to the back of the pew in front of me to keep from going up front to get saved.this went on for about a year,i finally told god while i was at church to stop dealing with me,after i told him that he stopped dealing with me during the alter call.i figured i was doomed for hell now,and while i was playing ball if i made a out or made a bad pitch i would cuss him.as i got a little older i just stopped believing in god,i figured if there was a god i done doomed myself for telling him to stop dealing with me.on aug.11,1976 my mama was reading a bible story before bed and like always my mind was on coon dogs are baseball after she was done reading she told me to take a bath before bed,as i was takeing a bath i felt a guilt i never have known before,i started crying like a baby and i never cried because i thought i was tough.after i got out of the tub i went to my mama told her i needed to be saved,she got the bible out and showed me how to be saved.i begged christ to live inside my heart and he was faithfull enough to do just that.iam so thankfull i dont have to worry about where iam going when my days are over here, and without a doubt there is a god and he saved my wicked soul then, now, and forever.

I DRANK LIKE A FISH,CUSSED LIKE A PLATOON OF MARINES,JUST WASNT A VERY GOOD PERSON,I DIDNT LIKE ANYBODY ACCEPT MY FAMILY AND A COUPLE FRIENDS ,I DIDNT CARE ABOUT GOD AT ALL..I WENT TO WORK AS A POLICE OFFICER EVERYDAY I DID MY JOB BUT HAD NO COMPASSION FOR ANYBODY..IN 2000 ME AND MY SON WAS DOIN SOME ROOFIN WORK 3 STORIES UP ,I FEEL OFF THE BUILDING MY SON THOUGHT I WAS DEAD ,I HAD MANY INJURYS THE WORST WAS MY SHOULDER ,IT WAS REALLY MESSED UP TOOK LOTS OF SURGERYS AND PINS AND BOLTS TO GET IT BACK TOGETHER,I WAS TOLD I COULDNT WORK FOR AT LEAST A YEAR OR MORE .I SLEEP IN MY RECLINER EVERYNIGHT AS I HAD ALL KINDS OF CASTS AND HALLOS ON ME ,STARTED HAVIN BILL PROBLEMS ,MARITAL PROBLEMS ,EVERYTHING WAS FALLIN APART.ONE NIGHT I WAS SITIN IN MY RECLINER ,I PICKED UP A BIBLE THAT ALWAYS SAT ON THE TABLE BY MY CHAIR ,I BEGAN READIN IT ,NIGHT AFTER NIGHT ,AND THEN ONE NIGHT I SAID TO GOD I NEED SOME HELP BAD ,I CONFESSED MY SINS TO HIM AND ASKED HIM INTO MY LIFE AND IF HE WOULD HELP ME ID TRY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OTHER PEOPLES LIVES ,YOU CANT BELIEVE HOW THINGS TURNED AROUND ,MY MARITAL PROBLEMS WENT AWAY , MONEY PROBLEMS WORKED OUT WENT BACK TO WORK AFTER A YEAR STARTED WORKIN WITH YOUNG KIDS THAT ID ARRESTED AND WAS HEADED FOR PRISON MANY CAME BACK AND THANKED ME FOR HELPIN THEM . I KEPT WANTIN TO DO MORE,I KEPT TELLIN GOD I WANA DO SOME THIN MORE I WANA MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN MANY PEOPLES LIVES ,,THEN IT HAPPENED ,MY SGT ASKED ME TO PLAY SANTA CLAUS AT A DAY CARE FOR A HOSPITAL ,MAN I SANG AND DANCED I WAS TOLD I WAS THE AWSOMEST SANTA THEYED EVER SEEN ,I WAS WITH 130 KIDS ,MAN THAT WAS A PRAYER ANSWERED SEEIN ALL THOSE LITTLE FACES ,MY WIFE WAS REALLY HAPPY SHE HAD ALWAYS WENT TO CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY SHE IS A GOOD WOMAN SHE TOLD ME SHE WOULD NEVER GIVE UP ON ME ,I STARTED ATTENDIN CHURCH REGULARLY ,I READ MY BIBLE EVERY DAY,MY LIFE COMPLETELY CHANGED.I LIVE FOR THE LORD TO HELP OTHERS ,I LOVE HIM AND PRAZE HIS HOLY NAME ,THANK YOU JESUS FOR ACCEPIN ME AS I DONT DESERVE ANYTHING THAT YOUVE GAVE ME,I STILL SIN ,BUT I HAVE JESUS ,,AND JUST ONE MORE THING ,,,,,,THE VERY NEXT DAY AFTER ACCEPTING GOD AS MY PERSONNAL SAVIOR I QUIT CUSSIN DRINKIN AND EVERY OTHER THING ,,,AND THE ONLY ONE THAT COULD OF DID THAT TO ME WAS JESUS ,I STILL HAVE SOME OF THE SAME FRIENDS ,BUT THEY RESPECT ME AND DONT CUSS AROUND ME ,,I TELL THEM ALL ABOUT JESUS EVERY CHANCE I GET AND ALSO TELL THEM IM PRAYIN FOR THEM SOME HAVE EVEN CAME TO CHRIST AND THEY WERE AS BAD AS I WAS , GOD HAS BEEN GOOD TO ME AND MY FAMILY ,IM BLESSED TO HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY LIKE YOUS ,,HAVE A BLESSED SUNDAY FROM THE RIVERBOTTOM,,,RON
