???? Need Help ????

Ok. Im a youth needing a pup trainer. Ive been posting on the classifieds looking for one but no one seems to have one close to where i live. Im located in nw alabama and will not be able to travel more than 2-2 1/2 hrs. I would prefer a black and tan but any dog will do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Btt

Come on guys. Lets try to help this youth hunter out. He needs a pup trainer. One of you has got a old dog out back that could use some hunting or put back in shape. Help this young man out.

your dad is a smart man. never buy any dog without hunting with it , no matter who owns it or how far it is away. if its too far to go try its too far to buy.

A very smart man, If I'm looking to buy, I'm looking to try, anything thats worth the money shouldn't have no worries about passing the try out period/night.....

Youth needing a hound to start his pup.

Fellas, really. Someone step up to the plate. This young man is just asking for a little help. Sounds like he has a little money for one. Even better would be if one of you could lone him that ol hound you got out back. The one you need to be hunting cause its been 6 months, but your working a lot. Or you've got to much going on to hunt all 8 of your dogs. Lets help this young man out, it might even make you feel good.

grwaskom- no need to rub it in.

Fisher13- He has a pup already, it needs started.

Toe cutter- good advice.

B&T Coonhunter9 - Hang in there. Something will come along.

you can accomplish the same thing with you being the pup trainer. using released coon you can get your pup to want them so it will try and track and tree them same as using another dog will..
a dog to hunt a pup with makes it easier to expose a pup to coon, but it is not a have to have another dog deal to get a pup started.

This is my first pup to ever train. Ive just got into coon hunting this year. I have released a coon in front of him before and he treed it about 200the yds out. But it is like he doesnt kno wat to do on trail or on the tree. He doesnt bark or nothing, i just thought getting an older dog woild help him with these things.

think about this.. you can take a litter of 8 weeks old pups and feed them some cooked hotdogs and bacon peices. after a couple days of them getting this treat you can hide that lil bowl of cooked hotdogs and bacon anywhere . let the pups out and walk them that direction. when they get a whiff of it they will cast thier heads trying to wind it , track the ground and everything a full grown hounds does on a coon. once those pups locate where those hotdogs are they will tree bark for them. no one or no dog taught them how to use thier nose to track or how to tree those hotdogs. all that was done was get them to like and want those hotdogs.
it works the same with coon, of course a coon is harder to tree then a hotdog, but you get a pup to want a coon as bad as it wanted the hotdog as a lil puppy and it will track and tree on them too without anyone or anything teaching them how.
pups do not learn to bark on track or tree on a tree from doing it with another dog. the reason pups start trailing and treeing is because another dog or you has exposed the pup to coon enough to make it want them bad enough to do it. its not from doing it with that other dog. when your pup is old enough and with you releasing coon for him and helping him find them, tree them and fight them after you roll it out he will be exposed to them and get so he wants them the same as another dog would expose him and make him. he will start trailing and tree barking the same way, when he is ready , other dog or no other dog.
most any pup started with another dog will still be at the beginning level of track running and going alone when you single them out. starting a pup with another dog is actually starting them backwards cause the pup has no idea whats going on till the tree. and tree should be the end of the whole deal.
it gonna take many released coon or many nights with another dog. you aint gonna see it on one released coon or one trip through the woods with another dog.

x2

So having a pup trainer is not really neccessary? If so why does so many people use them?

how old is your pup ?

b&t

i understand you are looking for a older dog to tree some coon with and show your pup a little but try an listen to what toe cutter is saying, it is very good advise keep that pup in the woods and put him where you know there are alot of coon and in time you will have yourself a coondog just be patient and good luck on finding a old dog, hope you find the right one.

Close to 6 1/2 months. I took him out again last nite, i let the coon out then then let him go. He suprised me, he bark on trail for the first time. I heard him out to about 300-400 yds then he must have lost it. But hes been improving each time ive took him out, even though he didnt tree it this time.

Posted by B&T Coonhunter9 on 01-12-2013 11:30 PM:

Ok. Thanks tc for the help, so basically u cant really teach a dog to bark on track and tree, it just comes natural.

Posted by groworg1 on 01-13-2013 12:21 AM:

you may have to wear sneakers to keep close enough lol ! great advise toe cutter ! if you do drop a coon make sure you tie him back so he gets use to gun going off and the coon is dead before you let him have it many good pups messed up by wounded coon putting a whooping on them when there that young goodluck !
