Garmin Partners with UKC!!

Garmin® Partners with the United Kennel Club

OLATHE, Kan. /December 23, 2012/Business Wire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), and the United Kennel Club have reached an agreement, naming Garmin as a sponsor for the UKC’s major hound and beagle events, including the Winter Classic, Autumn Oaks, and Hunting Beagle World Championship.

Established in 1898, the United Kennel Club is the largest all-breed performance-dog registry in the world, registering dogs from all 50 states and 25 foreign countries. More than 60 percent of its 15,000 annually licensed events are tests of hunting ability, training and instinct. UKC prides itself on its family-oriented, friendly, educational events. The UKC has supported the "Total Dog" philosophy through its events and programs for over a century. As a departure from registries that place emphasis on a dog’s looks, UKC events are designed for dogs that look and perform equally well.

“We’ve enjoyed a long relationship with Tri-Tronics and we look forward to continuing this same partnership with Garmin,” stated Todd Kellem, vice president of United Kennel Club events.

“From the first Tri-Tronics A-70 to the Trashbreaker, the Astro and now the Alpha, competitive houndsmen have long relied on the product innovations, from first Tri-Tronics and now Garmin. Even before the Tri-Tronics acquisition, we at Garmin have long valued the essential role that the United Kennel Club plays in the competitive hound and beagle world,” remarked Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “We are proud to be a part of their prestigious events.”

My guess is Garmin will own controlling interest in UKC before it's all over with.

.

Garmin is a Professional Company and UKC is also. I am sure things will work out.

We blame UKC for al lot of things but you have to look at how the rules and rule changes are set up.
In other KC's they can call some meetings and if something needs to be done for the betterment of the sport it happens.
In UKC doesn't the Breed Associations have to each have their meetings and vote on suggested rule changes that went through another process to even be considered for change.
Kind of like our Government. Lots of good things are lost because of one stubborn person voting and a lots of bad things are passed as a rider just to accomplish another goal.

That's pretty much the way it happens and why the rules change ever so often . Personally I think the games been played long enough that it shouldn't be open to change from just everybody across the whole country whenever they think something would be better for THEM . Might be time to lock it down and reverse the process so UKC looking at the complete picture overall everywhere can submit what they consider needed changes to the breed associations for approval .We might take a hit we don't like now and then but I don't think we need more rules than we already have between the rule book & the advisor to figure out and argue about .

Actually Bruce, Allen posted on here awhile back, during the long thread that discussed allowing Garmin use during the hunt, that if a rule change was made, it would most likely be made as a POLICY CHANGE, not a rule change which means UKC would not go through the usually rule change procedure involving the breed associations but in fact, would just make the change themselves. I guess I could go back and dig it out if anyone needs to see it for themselves or they can do a search and find it themselves.

I'm sure we all are.

When one huge conglomerate becomes sufficiently invested in a much smaller corporation, the concern is that the "betterment of the sport" can be replaced with the "betterment of the conglomerate".

Just my thought.

I think garmins should be allowed during hunting time on ukc hunts for the safety of the dogs what would that hurt

Posted by Adam Whitehead on 01-10-2013 12:36 AM:

I personally don't see how Garmins would help, nor hinder coonhunting in competitions, but rules are rules and they are set. We as competition hunters are to follow them ALL of the time.

I also am quite sure that coonhunting as a competition and as a sport has been around way longer than Garmin.

How does a Garmin help or hinder ya'll? Just curious

Having your garmin on during a hunt could keep your dog from getting run over most guides hunt to close to roads

One more thing. Maybe Garmin could help upgrade the Ukc message board so if over 650 folks are on it. It would still load

if there gets to be more than 650 people on here at once, then surely there is an empty walmart somewhere.
