Coon conservation.....or just a bad shot????

Been hunting a little. I've been working a couple of young dogs that are really doing good............so far. Took Henry the other night. He treed up a pine with two coons. I saw both of them, but left them to run again. Actually, I didn't leave both of them b/c I was practicing good conservation, but I shot up all my bullets!!!! I have a red dot scope, and it was raining. My glasses got wet and steamed up,and glary. When I looked into the scope I saw two red dots! I didn't know which one to use. Evidentally I picked the wrong one, because I think I heard them laughing at me.................... after about 15 rounds! lol!!!

I knew there was something I liked about you Vince....I like to go through the 22 shells myself with my Heritage Arms revolver. I especially like to use it at the farm. He knows I have been there and shooting them out...or shootin at em!!

I've been thinking. I posted earlier that Henry treed two coons in a pine tree. When I looked into my scope I saw two dots where there was supposed to be one.......If I saw two dots, maby there was just one coon! lol!!!!!

Na.....I'm sure there was two?????

craig

i think two weeks ago i shot almost 10 rounds?lol my buddys clyde dog treed in a tall thin pine and the coon was only up almost half way to my surprise!.anyways didnt take me long to get an eyeball as soon as i started squalling.10 shots i think!lol.clyde was blowing the top off as usual and his year old son was running around as usual with his head chopped off wondering where the coon was!lol..but it finally came down crashing threw the dead branches and the eager hounds were rewarded.

Like Dad used to say " he's not shot up as bad as you might think he was " .

I don't understand how any body could be a bad shot ... well maybe if they need glasses.

Target practice is fun! And it is cheaper than going to the movies. Our family probably goes through 1500-3000 .22 rounds a year, and most of the guns are single shots.

I did have issues one night this year. It was raining hard, and my glasses and the scope were fogging up. I was mad at my self because it took me 12 shots.

Larry, do you walk around the tree looking to get a head hot or at least a good body shot or do you just take it where ever you are standing when you find them?

Me and most of the guys I hunt with hardly ever move a step once we find'em, we just start the shoot'in. We might move to a better shot if we gotta reload.

Larry - When I put the dot or cross hairs from the rifle on em all I need is a one inch target BUT when I tote that revolver into these Pa big oaks and maples I better have pill bottle full of pocket rockets!!!!

Jim,

Guilty, I prefer to see an ear. I will search out the shot if I can. The only time I haven't this year is a couple of coons up two large white pines. I only ever seen one eye for a short 2-3 seconds. I did hit one of those square in the back.

Randy,

If I take my TC .22 mag, the coon is dead. Next year, I hope to use a Ruger Single Six that was my father's. I was thinking about a laser sight.
