winter feeding

how many feed wet feed in the winter i mix mine with hot water let it soak awhile in cold weather so they have something warm in thier belly for the night when it gets real cold i warm beef broth up on the stove and mix it with my feed

Posted by jap's cr kennel on 12-30-2012 09:58 PM:

I flood their food with warm water, not so they have a hot meal but to prevent dehydration which is a very real threat in winter. I couldn't care less if my dog has a hot meal.

I also put hot water in for extra hydration along with any scraps from the last evening meal for extra calories cause they do burn up more calories trying to stay warm. I too believe they are a part of the family, they do a good job for us when we cut them loose, and a so very loyal to us, so I feel I owe it to them to "spoil"them from time to time.

i make a big batch of rice, meat, sweet potatos. i mix the rice with skim milk to make a soup, heat in the microwave oven and mix that with their purina dog chow. just because they like it that way. i add left overs to it and they come along.

if its bad cold here i put hot water in their feed, and i feed them alot of meat and they look as good as ever,i also throw a lot of hay in the dog house so they can make them a nest.

Posted by daniel cain on 12-31-2012 05:48 AM:

i mix in warm milk and water in a gallon bucket let it set for a while so the feed absorbs alot of the liquid and then fill a gallon ice cream bucket up with warm water/milk grab 2 eggs per dog and whatever left over table scraps and they love it. take a rather large food bowl though lol

Posted by hillbilly56 on 12-31-2012 12:27 PM:

might

be 1 them old tales from the day but i dont feed table scraps ive been told as a kid it causes worms and i think of my dogs as family if thier good enough if not i still feed them good till they leave here i usally give them to a old dog trader thats always selling and trding dogs but every 1 knows he deals in junk lol heck i bought a old walker dog off him for 5 dollars he would tree a coon but he couldnt hear a lick

Posted by daniel cain on 01-17-2013 06:32 AM:

hillbilly i feed table scraps all the time and i have yet to have a problem with my dogs getting worms but i also work them every month.

the only problem i have with the way i feed is dogs that can run 50 yards then have to stop for a 15 minutes breather lol. they are always fat but id rather have em to fat than to thin

Posted by slobbermouth21 on 01-17-2013 08:56 AM:

I feed half dry dog food half dry cat food and pour grease over their food cats foods around 36 percent protein 12 percent fat dog food 27/20 plus the grease shiny coat glimmers in the sun and they could run for days and not get tired also cut up muscle showing you didn't even know a dog had now pups I mix half a pint of butter milk bacon grease half a dozen raw eggs canned tuna and crushed up vitamins mix it up then take cat food pour it over the cat food a lot higher protein then most dog food you can buy aroun# here plus they **** bricks alot easier to clean.

Posted by DERICK GOLDMAN on 01-17-2013 11:01 PM:

i dont always feed mine warm wet food, but I'll tell ya i got tired of freezing buckets so i went to tractor supply and bought 3 heated ones they were 29.00 each but they were well worth it. this way i know they alwats have fresh water. i just ran an extension cord with a 3 way and clipped the buckets to the wires of their pens works well.
