-- This quote just about sums it all up. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928290871)

This quote just about sums it all up.

"Many people must be ruled to thrive. In their selfishness and greed, they see free people as their oppressors. They wish to have a leader who will cut the taller plants so the sun will reach them. They think no plant should be allowed to grow taller than the shortest, and in that way give light to all. They would rather be provided a guiding light, regardless of the fuel, than light a candle for themselves."

If I may add..

Then over time, add the worthless, nutrient sucking weeds that deplete the soil, and eventually choke out or cause disease to the healthy plants....result..a failed crop.

"Wizard's First Rule: people are stupid. People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.
"Because of Wizards First Rule, the old wizards created Confessors, and Seekers, as a means of helping find the truth, when the truth is important enough. Darken Rahl knows the Wizard's Rules. He is using the first one. People need an enemy to feel a sense of purpose. It's easy to lead people when they have a sense of purpose. Sense of purpose is more important by far than the truth. In fact, truth has no bearing in this. Darken Rahl is providing them with an enemy, other than himself, a sense of purpose. People are stupid; they want to believe, so they do."

Doug, you doing some reading over the cold holiday?
We ran some junk out by Kilkenny last night. Finally got skunked this season.

Sometimes you have to clear the taller growth, to allow for new growth....

Yeah - I'm too lazy to get out and hunt when it only gets into the teens during the day. Maybe if we had some bobcats closer to us.
A coworker gave me this book to read and I thought this paragraph hit pretty close to home, even though the book was published in 1994. It will be interesting to see how history will look at the times we are in. It is true though that people will believe what they want to believe, espically when there is a sense of purpose. I still believe my original post has it right.
What spin would those "short plant" people give it? Something like this?: We could be tall too if we were not put at a disadvantage by how we have been treated by the rest of the plants. Since we have been treated unfairly we should be given extra fertilizer, extra water, extra care etc - free of course so that we too can be as tall as you. Any thoughts?

My take may be slightly different as it pertains to the Plant analogy..

* The Tall Plants should grow and bear fruit and be thankfull to God for their good fortune since ALL things come from God and his sovernty. The Tall plants should also be willing to share their good fortune with those less fortunate.... The Key words are "willing" and voluntary" , not forced.... The main reason for prosperity is to share it with others , not to hoard in greed..

* The Short Plants should strive to do better and not whine and cry because someone else is taller and expect to have their own path cleared. They should not expect gobment to do their bidding for them. Short Plants should be glad in seeing the Tall Plants, knowing that they too might some day be Tall themselves. If a Short Plant is content to be a Short Plant, then they need not demand help from taller plants.

Let's face it. Life on Earth is NOT fair. We should be thankfull for our good fortunes and help those in need , but not by having someone cut everyone to the same size.

You leave the weeds in your garden so they can suck the nutrients away from the productive plants?

You saying poor and working class are like weeds? Just cause they don't get all the sunlight that the rich do?

You use the term "Working class" mighty Liberally don't you think? How bout those "working class" that don't and won't hit a lick at a snake? But it sounds good the way you defend the weeds Truly. The only strawberries Made around here are the ones the Government raises on my working man's ___!

Are you saying the working class aren't productive?

Do you want a list of all the "selfmade" rich that sought out their own place in the sun and grew? I am amazed at all the immigrants that want to come to this "LAND OF OPPORTUNITY" when those born here think they can't grow because they are held back by the 'rich'. Maybe they are held back by their own limitations?

But they are my trees to make that decision on. They are not OUR trees. I don't need a Government worker making those decisions. They would make room for sapplings cuttind down den trees.

Are you harvesting the big trees or just cutting them down so the poor little saplings can get some sun?

People are just too dependent on the government I am no means rich but I believe we need rich people. Too many people on welfare that us "working men" are paying for I see it all the time at the store buying high dollar food on there directional cards it really makes me upset that people do this. I know some people really need this but there are alot more who abuse it. But that is what Obama wants is an even playing field. I just don't understand how the government can put it to us the way they have with more tax that's all I hear about. Enough is enough but what do I know I am just a working man lol

I saw it as a young man back in 1974. I was working my way through college working for a landscaper every minute I could making $3.75 an hour. I wen to the grocery store and bought a tin of fresh oysters and a quart of milk and a pack of salty Oysterette crackers. I was n't a cook yet and didn't splurge on salt figuring the Saltines would be enough. Low and Behold right there checking out in front of me was a shapely young thing I was thinkinking about asking to share my oysters. She had ribeyes and NewYork Strips and checked out with food stamps. Made my ammorous afflictions drop like a lead balloon. Probly just as well. This ain't nothing new.
